Tyler Reddick has commented on his Homestead-Miami Speedway supremacy after bagging the pole for the upcoming Straight Talk Wireless 400 race. The 23XI Racing driver suffered a brutal setback at the preceding Las Vegas battle and is in dire need of a dominant result to keep his championship fight alive.
The 35th Cup Series race weekend is around the corner, slated to flag off on Sunday, October 27, at 2:30 PM ET. It will mark the second race in the Round of 12 and will witness Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, and Chase Elliott fighting for a berth in the Championship 4 race. Joey Logano won the preceding Las Vegas race and hence, has already secured his spot in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway.
Reddick safeguarded his Round of 12 after finishing 11th at Charlotte Roval and sidelining Logano by four points. However, after Alex Bowman's DQ, the Team Penske driver got reinstated in the playoffs.
The 23XI Racing driver has a disappointing turnaround in Las Vegas. He got wrecked while overtaking Chase Elliott and his #45 Toyota flipped on the infield, marking a DNF. That said, a front-of-the-pack finish would be required by the regular season champion to stay in contention for his maiden NASCAR Cup Series title.
But after salvaging his second pole of the season, Tyler Reddick brimmed with confidence for the upcoming race on the 1.5-mile oval. He has competed in four races at Homestead-Miami Speedway thus far and has collected three top-5s.
The 23XI Racing driver said (via NASCAR).
"This Camry is really really fast. It was nice to be able to capitalize on qualifying. All things considered how last week ended, man we're picking up right where we left off behind us. So, excited for tomorrow, this is my kind of place and we know what we need to do tomorrow," Reddick said.
Reddick is currently below the cutline, in sixth place, and with a 30-point deficit.
"I think your playoffs over": NASCAR insider delivers his verdict on Tyler Reddick's fate if he fails to triumph the Homestead-Miami race
Tyler Reddick is running his fifth full-time Cup Series season and etched his maiden regular season title during his second year with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin's co-owned outfit. While he had a challenging regular season, with Kyle Larson as his immediate rival, the #45 driver upset the Hendrick Motorsports rival and took the regular season title by a single point.
However, despite having two wins, 11 top-5s, and 18 top-10s in from the first 26 races, Reddick couldn't replicate his performance in the playoffs. Since the 10-race slate began at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the #45 Toyota driver has claimed a solitary top-10, in Atlanta. Still, he managed to advance further into the playoffs
But as the Las Vegas setback has severely impacted his road to the Cup Series title, NASCAR insider Jordan Bianchi believes the 23XI Racing driver's "playoff (is) over" if he fails to park his car in the victory lane in Homestead-Miami.
"It's must-win honestly, and I feel that if I'm Tyler Reddick, I think if you don't win at Homestead, I think your playoffs over. I don't know if Reddick can go to Martinsville and win that race. I don't see that happening and so to me, if Tyler Reddick leaves Homestead without a win, at -30 points, he's out of playoffs. The regular season champion is not gonna make the Championship 4," Bianchi said.
If Reddick advances to the final round, it will mark the seven-time Cup Series race winner's first-ever ticket to the Championship 4 race.
