Ross Chastain was one of the two Cup Series drivers to have taken part in Friday's CRC Brakleen 175 at Pocono Raceway, the other being the former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, Zane Smith. As Chastain wheeled the No. 45 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, Michael Waltrip tried reaching out to him over the radio to ask a question. However, Waltrip dialed Sage Karam by mistake.

Michael Waltrip has been working as a color commentator with FOX Sports, covering Truck Series races since 2004. Still, it's not every day one gets to witness such a hilarious exchange between the NASCAR vet and a Truck Series driver with just 5 laps to go in a race. But it did happen.

In an attempt to talk to Ross Chastain, Waltrip radioed,

"Hey Ross, it's Michael Waltrip with the FOX Sports team, do you copy me?"
"Hey Ross, this is the FOX Sports team, do you copy? I wanna ask you a question," Waltrip repeated.

Finally, NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, Sage Karam, who was driving the #121 truck at Pocono on Friday, replied,

"I'm not Ross, I'm Sage Karam but you can tell Ross I said hello."

Renowned journalist Steve Taranto reported the same on X (formerly Twitter) and said,

"Michael Waltrip tried to get on the radio with Ross Chastain before the Truck race restarted and dialed Sage Karam by accident."

TRICON Garage driver, Corey Heim, won the race after leading a race-high 54 laps on the 2.5-mile racetrack in Pennsylvania. Grant Enfinger, Christian Eckes, Taylor Gray, and Ross Chastain finished in the top 5. Chase Purdy, Stewart Friesen, Matt Crafton, Dean Thompson, and Rajah Caruth wound up in the top 10.

NASCAR penalized Ross Chastain after the latter failed tech inspection twice

Renowned journalist Bob Pockrass reported that Ross Chastain, Todd Gilliland, and Daniel Hemric were penalized by NASCAR as the drivers had to pass through technical inspections twice. As a result, the car chiefs for the drivers were ejected and all three drivers were denied pit stall selection.

However, Chastain, along with the other two drivers, passed tech inspection the third time and therefore, qualified for the 70-lap event. Pockrass took to X and wrote,

"NASCAR confirms car chiefs for Chastain, Gilliland and Hemric ejected two failures. They also lose pit selection this weekend at Pocono. ... They all passed on third time so will get to qualify."

Chastain is yet to win this year in the Cup Series. Needless to say, a victory in Friday's Truck Series race could have helped the 31-year-old, Florida native gain some momentum as he prepares for his next race on Sunday.

As of now, Ross Chastain sits 12th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 529 points to his name. He holds the 15th playoff berth and is one of the four drivers currently locked in the playoff rumble based on points.
