Former NASCAR driver and co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart, revealed the gender of his newborn on his X account. He and his wife Leah Pruett earlier announced their plans to start a new family in June 2024.
The 53-year-old shared a post on X, disclosing the pregnancy and expecting their first child to be born in November. Since then, the latter didn't share any news on the topic until October 28, 2024. Stewart's wife flaunted her pregnancy bump in the picture, from a baby shower held in Arizona with balloons and soft toys in the background.
Tony Stewart revealed the gender of the child and wrote:
"Can’t wait to meet our little boy."
After retiring from professional racing, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion met semi-retired drag racing sensation Leah Pruett via FaceTime after Don Prudhomme introduced them. The couple also met at a sponsored event in 2019. After dating during the COVID pandemic in 2020, they got engaged in March 2021 and tied the knot in November of the same year.
Pruett has competed in National Hot Rod Association events since childhood and is a 12-time NHRA Top Fuel National event winner. She switched to Tony Stewart Racing in 2022 and competed till 2023. Then, Pruett stepped away from the racing industry to start a family with the former NASCAR driver.
Tony Stewart elucidates the difference between NASCAR and NHRA
Tony Stewart was recently featured on NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick's Happy Hours podcast and explained the difference between NASCAR and NHRA. The former Cup Series driver is racing his rookie season in NHRA after his wife took time to start a family.
The co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing explained that the differences between these series are significant. He highlighted the time difference and mentioned that NASCAR races are generally about three hours, whereas NHRA drag races are only about three to four seconds.
“It’s not like what you and I were used to where we’ve got a three-and-a-half-hour race. We’ve got six, eight pit stops that we’re going to have during the day, and we got three, four, five hundred laps to get the job done. If we make a mistake, we’re going to fix it," explained Stewart.
He added:
“Drag racing, it’s the opposite of that. Instead of being in the car for three and a half hours, you’re literally driving the car three and a half seconds, and going from zero to 330 miles per hour in 3.6, 3.7 seconds on a good run. So it’s drastically different."
The soon-to-be father mentioned that around 70 percent of the performance in NASCAR depends on the driver's skills and 30 percent on the crew. On the other hand, in NHRA, the majority of performance depends on the tuning of the car rather than driver input. The suits also weigh ten pounds more in NHRA than in NASCAR.
The NHRA car engines produce almost 11,000 horsepower, which normally is around 650 horsepower in stock car racing. He recently won his first NHRA race on October 5, 2024.
