NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson expanded his branches in racing in 2023 when he and dirt racing star Brad Sweet founded High Limit Racing, a 410-winged sprint car series. In a recent interview, the 2021 Cup Series champion revealed how retired NASCAR champion Tony Stewart played a role in the formation of the series.

The driver of the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet sat down with Brad Gillie for an interview via EPARTRADE to discuss the origins of High Limit Racing. The 32-year-old recalls he and Sweet getting in about 11 races while racing mid-week, which opened their eyes to how they could expand the sport.

It was then that the three-time Cup Series champion Stewart offered a helping hand to expand the series and give more opportunities to drivers and teams. Larson said:

"Tony Stewart had reached out to us about wanting to move on from the series ownership side, so we saw a good opportunity to try to elevate the national scene even more than it currently already was. We really wanted to try and allow more teams, more drivers, and more tracks to make some money, and also give the fans even more racing. From there, we went from 11 races to I think 61 races nationally, so quite a big jump." (2:09 onwards)

Stewart was the co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing along with Gene Haas, which fielded four full-time Cup Series cars and two full-time Xfinity Series cars in 2024. After 16 seasons, SHR ceased operations at the end of the 2024 campaign.

Larson, meanwhile, wrapped up his fourth season at HMS. The California native won a season-high six races but failed to qualify for the Championship 4 race. He posted 18 top 10s, 15 top fives, and finished sixth in the points standings.

Kyle Larson announced his plans to run "The Double" again in 2025

Kyle Larson isn't afraid to step outside of the NASCAR bubble and compete in other forms of motorsports such as sprint car racing. This past season, the 29-time Cup Series winner attempted to run both IndyCar's famed Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, otherwise known as "The Double."

Last September, it was announced that Larson will again attempt "The Double" in 2025 and compete in both the Indy 500 and the Coke 600 on Memorial Day weekend. HMS made the announcement via social media:

"Unfinished business. @KyleLarsonRacin is back for the #Hendrick1100 in 2025."

Larson's first attempt at "The Double" was tarnished by weather as the Indy 500 was delayed due to rain, forcing him to miss the start of the Coke 600, which took place later in the evening. Larson finished 18th in the Indy 500 before flying to Charlotte, North Carolina to join the Coke 600. However, rain cut the race short and Larson didn't run a lap in the 600-mile race.
