After a two-week hiatus for the 2024 Paris Olympics, NASCAR will resume high-octane racing at Richmond Raceway on August 11. Amidst NASCAR's silly season, several drivers have found themselves a new home for the next NASCAR campaign.
The departure of Tony Stewart and Gene Haas led Stewart-Haas Racing has been the talk throughout the season. From SHR's shed, Noah Gragson, Chase Briscoe, and Josh Berry landed a ride for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, leaving Ryan Preece in the free agent market. Moreover, another driver from the SHR's Ford roster has climbed back to NASCAR's top division after an impressive performance in the Xfinity Series.
Here's a list of the top three performing drivers from Xfinity Series who are linked with a Cup Series ride for the 2025 NASCAR season:
#1 Cole Custer
Driving SHR's #00 Ford, Cole Custer is the first Xfinity driver to land a confirmed ride with Haas Factory Team, piloting the #41. Haas has retained one Cup charter from SHR and will compete with the defending Xfinity champion who transitioned back to Cup Series. Custer also leads the current points table with one win, nine top-5s, and 16 top-10s in 20 starts this season.
#2 Shane van Gisbergen
Supercars champion, Shane van Gisbergen competes in the Xfinity Series full-time driving the #97 Chevy for Kaulig Racing in partnership with Trackhouse Racing. His debut win on the streets of Chicago in the inaugural Cup Series race last year stood out in the NASCAR community. So far, the Kiwi has had three wins in the 2024 Xfinity season. With the possibility of Trackhouse Racing acquiring a third charter, van Gisbergen seemingly is the top candidate to run a full schedule in NASCAR's top division.
#3 Riley Herbst
The SHR's #98 driver, Riley Herbst, is eyeing a Cup Series ride like his Xfinity teammate, Cole Custer. Herbst has impressed this season with one win, four top-5s, and nine top-10 finishes. With 23XI Racing's possibility of expanding its two-car operation in the Cup Series, Herbst's partnership with Monster Energy could help him land a ride with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin-led 23XI.
Meanwhile, the NASCAR Xfinity Series would witness the teams and drivers back in action at Michigan International Speedway for the Cabo Wabo 250 on August 17.
