NASCAR is gearing up for the Chicago Street Race scheduled for the July 6th and 7th weekend in Chicago, Illinois. The stock car racing series is returning to the streets of Chicago after its inaugural race last year.
NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series will return for the race at the 2.2-mile asphalt circuit track in Grant Park, Chicago. The 2023 Grant Park 220 Cup race witnessed Trackhouse Racing's Shane van Gisbergen take the checkered flag on his debut in the NASCAR national series. In the Xfinity Series, 2023 The Loop 121 saw Stewart-Haas Racing's Cole Custer finish first at the inaugural race on the street course.
As NASCAR returns for the 20th Cup Series race, five full-time Cup Series drivers are set to perform double duty at the 2024 Xfinity and Cup Series race in Chicago.
Here is the list of the five drivers who would compete with each other for two consecutive days:
5. Daniel Suarez
The full-time #99 driver for Trackhouse Racing will also pilot the #36 Chevy for DGM Racing in the Xfinity Series in a part-time stint at the Chicago Street course. The Mexican driver already has a win under his belt after a dramatic three-wide photo finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway at the start of the 2024 season.
4. Ty Gibbs
The 2022 Xfinity Series champion Ty Gibbs is set to do the double in Chicago. The full-time Cup driver for Joe Gibbs Racing is set to take the wheel of the #19 Toyota for Saturday's Xfinity race. The 21-year-old Gibbs is looking for his maiden win of the 2024 season. He previously finished P9 in the 2023 Cup race in Chicago.
3. John Hunter Nemechek
The full-time #42 Legacy Motor Club driver Nemechek is gearing up for a second consecutive win in the Xfinity Series. He emerged victorious at the Xfinity race at Nashville Superspeedway last Sunday behind the wheel of the #20 Toyota for a part-time schedule with Joe Gibbs Racing. Nemechek also finished runner-up at the 2023 The Loop 121 Race in Chicago.
2. Joey Logano
Two-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano is heading for the 20th Cup race with a recent win under his belt at the Ally 400 race at Nashville Superspeedway on June 30. The #22 full-time Team Penske driver will also compete for AM Racing, piloting the #15 Ford, replacing Hailie Deegan. Thus, giving Logano additional laps before the 2024 Cup race at Grant Park 165.
1. Kyle Larson
Kyle Larson, the full-time No. 5 driver for Hendrick Motorsports, will drive in the Xfinity Series apart from his Cup race on Sunday. The 2021 Cup Series champion is set to pilot #17 Chevy for the Xfinity race in Chicago. Larson also finished in the top five at the inaugural Chicago street course race last year. Larson picked up his third win of the season at the Sonoma street course and the #5 driver will be eyeing another win in the upcoming street course event.
