NASCAR Cup Series driver Martin Truex Jr. recently spoke about whether he listens to music while racing, along with his JGR teammates. Truex is in his final full-time season in the Cup Series, as he announced his retirement from the sport earlier this year.

The 2017 Cup series champion is also in his fifth full-time season with Joe Gibbs Racing, piloting the #19 Toyota. His first win with JGR came in 2019 at Richmond Raceway. In 675 race starts in the Cup Series, Truex Jr. has secured 34 race wins, with the latest one coming in July 2023, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Moreover, Truex Jr. is also a two-time winner of the Xfinity Series and has secured two victories in the Coca-Cola 600 crown jewel event.

Recently, Martin Truex Jr. and his JGR teammates Denny Hamlin, Ty Gibbs, and Christopher Bell were asked whether they listen to music on the team radio while competing in a race. In a reel posted by Joe Gibbs Racing's official Instagram, Truex Jr. responded, saying:

"I cannot listen to music in the car, tried that before too, it does not work."

Denny Hamlin said:

"No music in the race car. The only music that's playing is the one that's stuck in my head."

This is what Ty Gibbs had to say:

"I do not listen to music in the car, I don't think that that would work well."

Lastly, Christopher Bell said:

"Do I listen to music in the race car? The answer is no. We do not have radios to listen to music."

Competing in NASCAR is not just a physical challenge; it also requires significant psychological training. Drivers often work with coaches to develop mental strategies that help them stay calm and focused under high-pressure conditions. Some drivers even employ unconventional techniques to manage their nerves and maintain peak performance during races.

Martin Truex Jr. is in his final full-time season in the cup series. He is currently P7 in the drivers' standings, with 653 points. In 22 race starts, Truex Jr. has secured 9 top-ten and 4 top-five finishes, with his best finish coming at Bristol Motor Speedway, early in the season.

"We had such a dominant run in the spring" - Martin Truex Jr. shares his thoughts on returning to Richmond on Sunday

Martin Truex Jr. finished the Toyota Owners 400 in P4 at Richmond Raceway, earlier this year.

However, as NASCAR returns to Richmond on Sunday, Truex Jr. expressed his views on his return to the track. He said (via Motorsports.com):

"We had such a dominant run there in the spring and the caution came out and our race went haywire from there. Would like to get back out front and stay there on Sunday."
"I hope for myself and my team we can get back in Victory Lane there like we’ve done before," he added

The New Jersey native will be aiming to secure a spot in the 2024 playoffs and finish his full-time career in NASCAR on a high note.
