Jimmie Johnson's Legacy Motor Club teased an announcement on their social media platforms, triggering fans' reactions fueled by the speculations of having a new driver on the team. While the teaser for the announcement didn't reveal much, many speculated that they might field a third charter in the 2025 season.

Legacy Motor Club currently has two charters, the #43 and #42, piloted by Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek, respectively. A third car, the #84, is driven by team co-owner Jimmie Johnson but on a part-time basis and does not have a dedicated charter.

They recently posted a video for an upcoming announcement at "8:43 AM." Fans made multiple speculations about the announcement. This one comment also mentioned that Martin Truex Jr, who announced his full-time retirement at the end of the 2024 season, might pilot the No.84 car.

Other comments from users also mentioned that the team might be getting a new sponsor or a more competitive car. While someone hilariously mentioned:

"Hopefully a more competitive car that’s capable of winning!" Another fan commented.
"Cool, new sponsor," a user mentioned.

Jimmie Johnson reveals he never desired to be a team owner

Jimmie Johnson bought an ownership stake at Petty GMS Motorsports in November of 2022, almost a year after Maury Gallagher purchased the team. At the end of the season, Richard Petty sold all the shares to Gallagher and the team was later rebranded to Legacy Motor Club.

The seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson revealed that he had never desired to be a team owner. He explained that looking at others, he always considered it to be a stressful and difficult job because of all the expectations and duties a team owner has to fulfill. However, watching the Charter system in NASCAR and how it helped teams financially, Johnson changed his perspective.

"While I was driving I did not desire to be a team owner," Jimmie Johnson said (at 5:30). "That was not my childhood dream. It's very evident talking to someone like Tony Stewart that he wanted to be a team owner, and you know I watched and knew that it was a different game and a lot of pressure and stress that went with it but it just was tough to look at it as a viable business."
"The changes that have been made in the last 11 years with the Charter System in NASCAR have really changed my point of view," he added.

After Stewart-Haas Racing closed its operations at the end of the 2024 season, one of its charters was acquired by Gene Haas for the Haas Factor Team, and the rest three were up for grabs for the other teams. While 23XI Racing is expected to expand, Legacy Motor Club might get its hands on a third charter as well.
