NASCAR driver Ty Gibbs will be competing in the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals in the #81 CB Industries car as he makes his debut in the Super Bowl of Midget Racing. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver uploaded a picture of his car ahead of the event on January 11 and dropped a one-word reaction.
Gibbs uploaded a story on his Instagram account and shared a picture of the #81 CB Industries car that he will be driving in the Chili Bowl Nationals. The car was parked at the Tulsa Expo Center along with the other cars that are bound to compete at the event over the next six days.
Gibbs' Chili Bowl Nationals car is sponsored by his NASCAR Cup Series partner and energy drink company Monster Energy. The story uploaded by him showed the livery in its full glory, with an all-black base paint job and neon green Monster Energy highlights all around the car. As the NASCAR driver uploaded the picture, his caption read:
“Clean”
Ty Gibbs participated in the practice test at the Tulsa Expo on January 12, 2025, before making his Chili Bowl Nationals debut. The JHR driver uploaded a story with a picture collage of himself sliding the midget car around the track.
FloRacing’s official Instagram account uploaded a reel that included onboard clips of Gibbs going around the dirt track during practice. The caption of the reel read:
“Ride along with RTJ, Ty Gibbs, and Gordy Gundaker as we rip around the Expo for #ChiliBowl practice.”
Ty is the grandson of NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs and drives the #54 Toyota in the Cup Series for his grandfather's team JGR. The Monster Energy-sponsored athlete won the 2022 Xfinity Series in his rookie season.
Joe Gibbs Racing lifted restriction to allow Ty Gibbs, Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell to participate in the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals
Joe Gibbs Racing had a restriction on its drivers which prevented them from taking part in dirt racing as a precautionary measure to avoid any injuries. However, these restrictions were lifted in late 2024, allowing Ty Gibbs, Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell to participate in the 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals.
As a result, Ty will be making his debut whereas three-time Chili Bowl Nationals champion Christopher Bell will return to the dirt track. Talking with the Athletic about why the restrictions were lifted, Joe Gibbs said:
“We sort of talked things over to come up with a process by which they can request to run certain races. If they get approval from everyone they need on our competition side, then they are free to run the race. That includes dirt, but also potentially other forms of racing.”
The 2025 Chili Bowl Nationals will be held from January 13 to January 18, 2025 at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. Along with Ty Gibbs, Kyle Busch will also be making his debut at the event.
