On Wednesday, a three-member panel rejected 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ty Majeski's appeal regarding his absence on the media day before the season's first ending race at the Phoenix Raceway on November 8, 2024. Majeski's $12,500 penalty still stands, and he has to pay the fine.
The Thor Motorsports driver was fined for missing the Playoffs Media Day on November 5, 2024, for the championship-eligible drivers held in North Carolina before the deciding race at Phoenix. He went to his hometown in Wisconsin to vote for the US presidential elections.
However, despite Ty Majeski having the support of his team, he got fined for violating the NASCAR Rule Book's Section 4.4.A, which deals specifically with “failure to complete media obligations” for the Truck Series champion.
A few days after receiving the penalty, the Truck Series driver appealed to the sanctioning body to revoke the decision. But on December 11, 2024, the member panel, including Hunter Nickell, Cathy Rice, and Lake Speed, highlighted that Majeski broke a rule listed in NASCAR's Penalty Report.
Bob Pockrass, a NASCAR analyst, shared the statement from the three-panel.
“Driver failed to meet contractual agreement with NASCAR. One of the most, if not most, important media obligations of the entire season.”
One of the NASCAR spokespersons revealed last month that the governing body was unaware of Ty Majeski's absence until they issued the fine. The stock car association mentioned that they would have worked the issue with the driver if he had opened up about his intentions.
Ty Majeski fell short of his third title win at the Snowball Derby
To add more stars to his 2024 career, Ty Majeski competed in the Snowball Derby, aiming to clinch his third title in the series. Majeski won the pole position at the biggest Super Late Model race, but the race was yet to be completed.
During the 300-lap race, Majeski and Honeycutt exchanged leads several times. During the final laps, Kaden Honeycutt took the lead, sending Ty Majeski two spots behind. The Truck Series driver finished the race in third place behind Honeycutt and Stephen Nasse.
Despite having a faulty truck, Majeski came close to victory and bagged the pole position. In the practice session at the Five Flags Speedway, a chunk of asphalt damaged the nose of the truck.
“I saw the piece of asphalt. Just couldn't react quick enough and not risk getting out of the groove and wrecking the car even worse. I didn't know exactly what it was at first, I just saw something dark. Obviously, when I hit it, just kinda exploded the whole front end,” stated Truck Series driver on the impact (0:06)
Majeski has been racing in the series since its 57th annual season and has won the championship title twice, in 2020 and 2023. He stands among drivers, including Kyle Busch, who secured a pair, and Hendrick Motorsport driver Chase Elliott, the youngest Snowball Derby title winner.
