NASCAR Truck Series driver Ty Majeski recently reacted to the $12,500 fine he received for missing the Championship 4 media day on Election Day this week. Majeski races full-time for ThorSport Racing in the No. 98 Ford and is currently aiming for his first Truck Series Championship. He has made it to the Championship 4 twice before.
NASCAR fined Majeski $12,500 for missing the Championship 4 media day on Tuesday and he plans to challenge the fine. Majeski said:
"They knew our position, and yeah, kind of unprecedented. This has never happened before. Everyone knew it was Election Day for a long time.... I don't think anybody wants to be put in that position. But we have to have a country and a free country to race, to enable the race in, and that's just part of being a U.S. citizen."
The Wisconsin native added that he learned he was in the Championship 4 only a few days before.
"I wanted to exercise that right. Yeah, I didn't know I was gonna be in the Championship 4 until a few days prior. I've always, in my whole life, always been an Election Day vote guy, never done an absentee ballot. Yeah, I wanted to make sure my vote was counted," he added.
Majeski was not officially confirmed in Championship 4 until the Friday before the race at Martinsville and had already planned to vote on Tuesday. He said he discussed the situation with his team, ThorSport Racing, and received approval to go and vote.
"You just never know" - Ty Majeski on whether Friday's Phoenix race could be like last year's
Ty Majeski has a total of five wins in the Truck Series but none at Phoenix Raceway. He has not finished better than 11th in the last five years there.
Last year, Majeski led the most laps during the championship race but ended up 14th after crashes and caution flags. When asked if Phoenix could be like last year's race, he told Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass:
"You never know, I hope not. I feel like a lot of the races have been clean. I feel like the [Truck] series has been a lot better than last year. I really don't foresee it turning out like last year, but you just never know."
Majeski raced full-time for ThorSport Racing in the No. 66 Toyota truck in 2022. He finished with seven top-five finishes and two wins and made it to the Championship 4.
Last year, he made the playoffs but was eliminated in the Round of 8. Majeski has an average finish of 15 in three races at the one-mile track in Phoenix.
