Fans reacted to Bubba Wallace parking his car right in front of Noah Gragson's Mustang on the pit road after the duo and Austin Dillon were involved in a crash with less than 40 laps to go in the USA Today 301. Wallace wasn't happy with the Stewart-Haas Racing driver, as the former got relegated several points behind the playoff cutline due to a P34 finish.
Bubba Wallace started the race 17th, while Noah Gragson and Austin Dillon started 21st and 22nd, respectively. Wallace was running on the outside of Gragson's #10 when the latter got loose on the apron and veered to the inside of the track, collecting Wallace's DraftKings Toyota and Dillon's Bass Pro Shops Chevy.
Reportedly, Gragson had lost control over his machine due to the reduced grip on the wet track. The contact brought out the 10th caution of the 301-lap race.
Bubba Wallace showed his resentment by pulling up in front of Gragson, blocking the latter's way to leave the pit lane. Gragson then backed up a little to clear the way ahead of him.
Here is a clip of the moment as posted by NASCAR on NBC:
Several fans reacted to Wallace blocking Noah Gragson's way on the pit road, with one of them calling it a temper tantrum.
"Typical temper tantrum," the fan said.
Calling the gesture unprofessional, another fan said,
"So unprofessional he his. Bubba go home."
Here are a few other reactions to the 23XI Racing driver's pit road retaliation:
"If Kyle Busch did this there would be people saying he needs to sit out a week," a fan said.
"Maybe we should call him Baby Wallace, like he's never made a mistake before and wrecked cars," added another.
"I’m all for showing your displeasure, but @BubbaWallace has to be smarter there with crew guys working and driving through Gragson’s box there. Also a bad look not like he wrecked you on purpose he spun out on a wet track. Probably should get a fine of some sort for this move," a fan observed.
"@BubbaWallace you really think Noah just did that on purpose? Come on dude. I know you’re close to the playoff bubble but come on," added another.
Unfortunately, Bubba Wallace was handed his third DNF of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Currently, the Toyota pilot sits 15th on the NASCAR Cup Series point standings with 417 points to his name.
Bubba Wallace critiques NASCAR's decision to bring out rain tires
In the past, NASCAR has delayed, postponed, or even canceled races due to inclement weather. However, none of that happened on Sunday as the officials decided to bring out rain tires and use them.
According to AP News, the race had already been delayed by 2 hours and 15 mins due to unfavorable weather conditions, which explained the move.
Needless to say, Bubba Wallace was not impressed with the decision. Expressing his feelings about the same while the race was on hold, Wallace posted,
"What rain tires…"
Although the rain tires did not work as expected for the likes of Gragson and Wallace, Joe Gibbs Racing's Christopher Bell became the first driver in the Cup Series arena to win a race on Goodyear rain tires.
