Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick made history in the motorsports world as she became the most successful woman driver in American open-wheel racing. A fierce competitor, she once tried to fight back against Landon Cassill at Kansas Speedway.

Unfortunately, her attempt fired back and led to the end of her race.

Patrick started her journey in NASCAR in 2010, making a move from the IndyCar Series. During her seven-year career, she competed in a total of 191 races as a driver for SHR. She secured seven top-10 finishes with her best in the Cup Series coming at the 2013 Daytona 500 where she secured a P8.

Moreover, Patrick became the first woman in the sport to take pole position in the Cup Series, further strengthening her position in NASCAR. Besides her career in NASCAR, she also emerged victorious at the 2006 Indy Japan 300 at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, driving for Andretti Green Racing.

Danica Patrick raced in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, piloting the #10 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing. Landon Cassill, who was piloting the #83 Toyota for BK Racing, made a pass on her early in the race. She tried to spin Cassill off in an attempt to take her position back.

Although she succeeded in spinning off the #83, she lost control of her own car and made contact with the wall.

Here's a look at the incident:

This incident led to an early exit for Patrick in the Sprint Cup Series race. Cassill regained control of his car after the spin-off and continued racing. Moreover, he was heard addressing the #10 driver on the team radio:

"Rule number one of stock car racing is, learn how to wreck someone without wrecking yourself."

Following her exit from NASCAR, Danica Patrick now has a thriving candle-making business and also runs the "Pretty Intense" podcast on which she interviews people from different walks of life. She was also an analyst for Fox Sports in 2022 and was witnessed commentating in Formula One at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix.

"I've always played fair" - Danica Patrick on the incident with Landon Cassill at Kansas

Danica Patrick's #10 was severely damaged after her incident on the track and unfortunately, it was being prepped for the subsequent playoff race in Texas. She shed light on the incident in an interview with NASCAR.

"I've just been really frustrated with the (#)83, he slammed into me on the front straight for no other reason than his radio communication. [...] I've always played fair but If it's one time, I can imagine it's frustration, but it's been pretty consistent with him getting into me, so at some point, I have to stand up for myself," she said.
"The bummer is is that this was my Texas car, that we were having a good run, that we were making the car better."

After her crash, Patrick finished the playoff race at Kansas in P32. However, BK Racing driver Cassill managed to land in the top 20, crossing the finish line at P18.
