Chase Elliott and Joey Logano tangled on Lap 194 of the USA Today 301 at New Hampshire after restarting from P11 and P12 positions respectively. Logano locked up his left front tire which led him to collide with the left side of Elliott's #9 Chevrolet, causing the latter to spin out.

The incident forced Logano to head to pit road due to significant damage to the right side of his #22 Ford while Elliott continued with his race after losing several positions.

Earlier in the race, Chase Elliott had clinched the pole position and secured P3 and P9 places in Stages 1 and 2 respectively. Logano, starting sixth, finished the first two stages in second and third place.

After the collision during the final stage of the USA Today 301, Joey Logano encountered substantial issues. Logano had to initially pit after his right front tire blew, leaving just the rim. Although his crew managed to change the tire and fix the toe link, Logano discovered issues with his car's performance once he returned to the track.

Watch the collision between Elliott and Logano below:

Logano was forced to pit again, this time to have his engine checked. The lengthy pit stop pushed him to the back of the pack, and he fell several laps behind. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott's streak of finishing in the top 20 this season might now be in jeopardy due to the incident.

Before the race, Elliott was leading the driver standings while Logano was in fifteenth place, trailing behind Chase Elliott by 183 points.

Chase Elliott says he feels confident about his position in the 2024 season

Before the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott was at the top of the NASCAR Cup standings, which helped him grab the pole for Sunday's race. Saturday's persistent rain at the 1.058-mile track in Loudon, New Hampshire, led to the cancellation of the qualifying session.

Consequently, the starting lineup for Sunday's race was determined by the NASCAR performance metric, which considers recent finish positions and team owner points.

Elliott expressed optimism about his team's performance this season during his pre-race media interaction, stating:

"I feel that our team has been in a good spot, really all year. To be honest, I’ve been super happy with where we’re at; really happy with everything, in general, top to bottom. I feel like we’re all in a good place. I feel like I’m in a good spot with what I’m looking for in the car." [at 1:35].

However, the collision with Joey Logano during the race cost Chase Elliott valuable track position, dropping him to P21 which could eventually cost him points to solidify his driver standings position.

The race was later halted due to rain with only 82 laps remaining, potentially thwarting any chance of a top-10 finish for Elliott.
