Denny Hamlin has given a tour of his co-owned team 23XI Racing's independent facility. Inspired by Michael Jordan's 'Air' and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver's 'speed' on the asphalt, the name Airspeed was born. The team entered the NASCAR scene in 2021 with Bubba Wallace's #23 Toyota and added #45 to their roster in the 2022 season.

As soon as the Huntersville-based outfit entered the Cup Series in 2021, Hamlin started envisioning what the Airspeed facility would look like and was ready with the initial concept sketches. The 23XI Racing's HQ was completed nearly two months back, and now, Denny Hamlin has shared a touring video depicting the facilities boasted by the project.

The 114,000-square-foot building has a specifically designed elephant print for 23XI racing and Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick's Talladega race-winning cars are displayed as sovereigns. The upper level of the Airspeed facility boasts a '23 Meeting Room,' which has 45 Air Jordans displayed on the wall. Visitors can also see the high-octane machines undergoing enhancement jobs on the ground level.

On one end is the 'Carolina Blue' area, which depicts Michael Jordan's career start in basketball and thus, is dedicated to business dealings within Airspeed. The other end is the 'Red and Black' area dedicated to Chicago Bulls, where the legendary player earned his fame, and hence, the revenue generated from the business side gets invested for performance in the 'Red and Black' area.

Between the business and competition spaces, 23XI Racing's Airspeed facility boasts a technologically advanced gym. Then comes Denny Hamlin's favorite- the café which includes separate booths, game tables, racing simulator, foosball, and many more engaging things. The tour is concluded with a glimpse of the banquet which might be the team's celebration area.

Denny Hamlin wants Airspeed to feel like the "Google of race shops"

A typical NASCAR race shop is where high-octane cars are worked on and prepared for weekly races. Their sole focus is to provide space for machines and not much priority is given to race strategizing and other race-related affairs as those things occur elsewhere.

Airspeed, however, differs in this aspect. Not only does it have ample space where the team can work on their cars but the sprawling 114,000-square-foot building has multiple avenues so everything related to racing can run inside a single facility.

"I wanted it to feel like the Google of race shops," Hamlin said via NASCAR.

However, the co-owner highlighted that their previous HQ in Mooresville was a race shop and didn't want Airspeed to carry along with the same tag.

"This is not a race shop. It’s a place where we work, yes, we put cars on the track, but it’s so much more than that. Would you say sitting right here, we’re in a race shop? No, it certainly doesn’t feel that way. So I think what we were in — in Mooresville, in the old Germain (Racing) building — was a race shop and a garage. This is not. This is something that is different, and so it needs to be named appropriately,” Hamlin added.

The Airspeed facility is still left with seven acres of land at its disposal which might come to use later if Denny Hamlin's co-owned team progresses in the Cup Series and begins fielding more than two cars.
