Rick Ware Racing driver Kaz Grala suffered a major crash during the practice session for the NASCAR Cup race at Dover Motor Speedway.

While Grala is yet to secure a full-time seat, the NASCAR driver has his career-best shot in the premier series this season. The 25-year-old driver, who shuffled multiple times between the Xfinity and Truck Series, secured a 26-race schedule for the ongoing campaign across two teams.

Piloting the No. 36 Ford Mustang in his sole race for Front Row Motorsports at the Daytona 500, Grala has since gone on to make eight more starts in the Cup Series, driving the No. 15 Ford for Rick Ware Racing. However, the Boston native is yet to set the world alight with his performances so far, and the practice session in Dover was yet another addition to his poor displays so far this season.

In the closing moments of Group B practice, Grala, behind the wheel of the No. 15 N29 Capital Partners Ford Mustang, experienced a frightening moment as his car veered right on the exit of Turn 4, sending him head-on into the outside wall.

The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to the car. Despite the intensity of the crash, Grala managed to walk away unharmed. After a visit to the infield care center, he was cleared with a clean bill of health. However, questions loom over the status of the No. 15 team for Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.

Kaz Grala reacts to his big crash in Dover

Speaking to the media after the race, the 25-year-old driver expressed his surprise and disappointment. Kaz Grala said (via Racing America):

"Yeah, that was so quick. I didn't even feel like I had any time to react to it. Definitely unexpected. We had been a little bit free through practice, but our race pace was actually really good, I felt like. I thought maybe our best car of the year, and it was just gone, out from under me before I could try to save it."

Speaking of Sunday's main Cup Series race, Kaz Grala expressed skepticism. He added:

"We're obviously not in a good position for backup cars, so, we'll have to see what we have to work with for tomorrow. Far from an ideal situation, but I'm just glad I'm alright, and we'll do what we can for tomorrow."

Kaz Grala has had success at Dover in the past with two top-five finishes in four Xfinity Series starts and a best finish of second in the Truck Series in 2017.

Meanwhile, defending champion and Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney recorded the best time (22.575 seconds) during the practice session in Dover.
