At the Summer Shootout championship, Kevin Harvick's son, Keelan Harvick, not only competed for his first championship title but also embraced the lighter side of the event. Keelan was spotted having a great time with a reporter’s microphone, playfully interviewing various members of his team, including his father, his sister, and Bubba Wallace among others.
As a second-generation racer, Keelan Harvick was fully engaged in the competitive spirit of the championship. Yet, before the race, he took a moment to share some fun with his team. Approaching his father with the microphone, Keelan asked, "What do you think?" In response, Kevin Harvick imparted some seasoned advice about racing with control, stating,
"I think we should try to not hit anything."
Keelan then continued his impromptu interviews, moving on to other team members before approaching Bubba Wallace. Wallace, initially confused by the situation, humorously remarked when asked the same question, "Now? At the moment? I'm wondering why you're interviewing me."
Keelan explained, "Nobody else was there to interview," and proceeded to ask, "How was your race?"
Wallace responded
"It was eventful. I was late to the grid, joined on at the back of the pack, off of turn two, and finished second. So, it's my best finish of the shootout. I'm just trying to be like you. Every race, every lap, trying to be like Keelan Harvick." (01:11)
His playful response left Keelan briefly at a loss for words, and he awkwardly thanked Wallace, who was amused by the young interviewer’s formal gratitude.
However, the most memorable interaction occurred when Keelan interviewed his sister, Piper Harvick. Shortly after speaking with his father, Keelan turned to Piper and asked, "What do you have to say?" Piper only stared blankly at her brother. When Keelan confirmed if she had nothing to add, she simply shook her head "no." (0:18)
Kevin Harvick's son, Keelan Harvick is disappointed in himself.
Kevin Harvick's son, Keelan Harvick faced a challenging time at Charlotte Motor Speedway this year, experiencing both highs and lows. However, as the championship neared its climax, he had to face a setback when his rivals Ryan Zima and Neal Dulin effectively dashed his championship hopes; while Dulin won the race and Zima took second place, Keelan found himself finishing third.
In a candid post-race interview with FloRacing, Keelan expressed his disappointment:
“This sucks. We were good all day… but missed out on a trophy. The disappointment was compounded by the knowledge that a runner-up finish would have crowned him champion, a title now claimed by Dulin."
Despite the setback, Keelan recognized the fierce competitiveness of the Summer Shootout, remarking,
"A little piece of quarrel among ourselves, but we optimized what we got.”
Meanwhile, his father, Kevin Harvick, has been preoccupied with the podcast episodes at Fox Sports, following the conclusion of his racing commitments for the season at Sonoma during the early June weekend.
