Kyle Busch found himself on the wrong side of lady luck days after suffering from a DNF in the Nashville Cup race. This time around it was away from a Next Gen car and the racetracks of NASCAR.
On Wednesday, Kyle Busch took part in the PASS Super Late Model Celebration of America 300 at Oxford Plains Speedway. Heading into the event, the 2x Cup champion had expressed his excitement about the race.
"Headed to Maine to run the Super Late Model tonight & tomorrow. Should be a fun couple days getting back to my roots again," Busch posted on his social media.
However, his run of bad luck from NASCAR carried over into the Super Late Model race as he got spun out with 30 laps to go. According to Toby Christie, Busch was running in 4th position before he got spun by Garrett Hall.
This meant that the RCR driver went from having a shot at winning the race to finishing last.
Kyle Busch claims his weekend job in NASCAR gets in the way of his love for grassroots racing
Ahead of the mid-week race at Oxford Plains Speedway, Kyle Busch opened up on his love for grassroots racing, how he's getting into it more, and why he is unable to run more of these races.
"I love the grassroots racing, always have, always have been back into the late models. I’ve been doing it a little bit more these days with Brexton Busch, my son, racing in the micros and bandoleros, things like that. It’s always fun to do the weekday shows, where you get an opportunity to run. Obviously, my weekend job gets in the way of (grassroots racing) on the weekends," Busch said as per Central Maine.
But the one thing which holds together the top level of NASCAR and the grassroots level for Kyle Busch is his desire to win.
"It’s still competition, you want to go out there and win. You want to beat everyone everywhere you go, whether it’s Oxford, Maine or the Daytona 500. That’s the main aspect of it," he added.
However, winning isn't something Busch is experiencing a lot this season. In what is turning out to be one of the worst seasons of his Cup career, Busch is yet to win a race, and is currently in danger of not making it to the playoffs.
Over the last five races, Busch has finished only one (Sonoma). His races in Gateway, Iowa, North Hampshire, and Nashville all resulted in a DNF finish.
So far this season, Busch has finished inside the top 5 twice and thrice inside the top 10. At this stage last season, he had 3 wins to his name.
But this season, Kyle Busch is battling to finish races as he's hoping to make it to the playoffs.
