Kyle Larson has crashed out of the Chicago Street Race after failing to maneuver past Turn 6. The Hendrick Motorsports driver's Chevrolet went straight into the tire barriers, marginally avoiding Ty Gibbs from getting collected in the process.
Chicago Street Course returned to NASCAR for the second time where Kyle Larson set the stage with his fastest qualifying speed of 90.168 mph. However the wet conditions and under-caution run gave Stage 1 win to the defending winner Shane van Gisbergen, while the #5 Chevy driver settled in fifth place.
But in the second stage, while Larson was running in third behind Ty Gibbs, his high-octane ride encountered a tire lockup while in the speed trap, and the #5 Chevy careened into the tire barriers, completely damaging its front.
The 2021 Cup Series champion tried his best to detangle his car to avoid race exit but to no avail.

Kyle Larson retains the top spot in the Cup Series leaderboard despite a tire lockup on the streets of Chicago
Kyle Larson has showcased his dominance since the 2024 Cup Series season kicked off. After sealing his maiden win at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the HMS driver fell for a disappointing outcome a handful of times but ultimately got his mojo back.
Despite missing out on the highest points-paying race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Larson is leading the Cup Series standings with three wins, eight top-5s, and ten top-10s in his arsenal. Before the Chicago showdown, the Californian led his teammate Chase Elliott by 20 points.
Thus, by getting wrecked out, Kyle Larson's odds of retaining his top spot came under jeopardy as Elliott was required to net a 17th-place finish to come level with Larson as the Cup Series leader. Any result better than P17 will place the 2020 Cup Series champ on the top of the leaderboard while his #5 Chevy teammate would have to scrounge back for the top spot in the next battle
However, Chase Elliott finished in 21st place and hence, Larson is still the Cup Series leader but the margin of dominance has been slashed to 11 points.
