NASCAR driver Kyle Larson lost control of his #5 Chevrolet shortly after Stage 2 concluded in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Starting the race in fourth, Larson appeared comfortable until the on-track incident led to a DNF for the #5 team.
Over his 12-year career, Larson has secured 27 Cup Series victories and 175 top-ten finishes. His latest win came at NASCAR’s return to the historic Indianapolis Oval, the Brickyard 400. Larson has also claimed victories in several prestigious Crown Jewel events, making him one of the most formidable drivers on the track.
At Michigan International Speedway, Larson was called to pit road for a quick refuel following the conclusion of Stage 2, despite his preference to remain on track, as indicated by team radio communications. After rejoining the race mid-pack, Larson lost control of his car, triggering a multi-car incident involving 23XI Racing's Bubba Wallace and Chris Buescher, the previous year's FireKeepers Casino 400 winner.

Following his DNF, Larson spoke about the incident in an interview with NBC Sports.
"Restarts are difficult here with the side drafts and all that," Larson told the NBC Sports broadcast after he was discharged from the infield care center. "Bummer. We had an extremely fast car. I hate that I screwed that up for our team as well as the others out there that I got collected in it." Larson stated.
Larson was at the top of the Cup Series leaderboard with 779 points to his credit. In 23 race starts this season, the #5 driver has amassed 4 Cup race victories, 12 top-ten finishes, and 9 top-five finishes. However, 23XI Racing's #45 driver Tyler Reddick drove down victory lane at Michigan, stealing the position from the HMS ace.
Although the #5 driver has secured a seat in the playoffs, the race-ending incident at Michigan marks his 4th DNF of the season.
"I know I'm better than him" - Kyle Larson explains why he feels he's better than F1 champion Max Verstappen
Kyle Larson recently emerged victorious at the Knoxville Nationals for the third time in his career. Following his win, the former Cup Series champion stated that he is a better racer than three-time Formula One and reigning champion Max Verstappen.
Larson has proven his versatility as a professional race car driver across various motorsport disciplines. However, the 32-year-old expressed doubts about Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, suggesting that Verstappen excels only in Formula One. In a recent interview with FloRacing, Larson said,
"I know in my mind I am better than him as an all-around driver," Larson said in an interview with FloRacing. "There’s no way (Verstappen) can get into a Sprint Car and win the Knoxville Nationals. There’s no way he can go win the Chili Bowl.'
"That’s what gives me ease and confidence that, like, I know I’m better than him. Maybe not in an open-wheel IndyCar or Formula 1 car, but that’s one discipline. I think I would beat him in everything else. You can quote that," the American added.
Verstappen has dominated Formula One, winning 51 of his last 80 races, and was recently named the world's best auto racing driver by ESPN. Interestingly, Kyle Larson received the same honor for his 2021 Cup Series title win.
