Ross Chastain and Josh Berry found themselves exchanging fenders with 15 laps to go in the Battle of Broadway at Nashville Fairgrounds Superspeedway last Thursday. The NASCAR Cup Series drivers had recently announced that they would run the inaugural race and contest for the prize money of $10,000.

Chastain and Berry competed against 22 other drivers in the pro-late models race, most of whom were local racers. However, Stewart-Haas Racing driver, Josh Berry, had not confirmed his appearance until Thursday morning.

Here is a video of the tussle between Berry and Chastain during Thursday night's race, uploaded by renowned NASCAR reporter Toby Christie:

Chastain and Berry were running fourth and fifth at the time but they were later battling for the lead following the final restart on lap 135. However, the officials canceled the restart due to a spinout at the back of the traffic, and neither Chastain nor Berry was unable to make his way up front after that.

The Battle of Broadway 150 was this year's sixth race at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Ross Chastain drove the number 1 Tootsie's Chevrolet for Rackley W.A.R. while Josh Berry wheeled the number 4 Fetcho Racing machine.

The general manager of Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Jason Lord, was particularly elated at Chastain and Berry taking part in the 150-lap event.

"We've got more coming that's for sure, but what a great thing for Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway to already have these two drivers confirmed," Lord said in a statement, as reported by The Tennessean. "We need to let the city know we're still here and I think this event's going to do it."

Both racers are in town preparing for the Ally 400 NASCAR race on Sunday. Chastain enters the 19th race of the season ninth while Berry enters 19th.

"Racers race, football players throw the ball," - Ross Chastain on why he chose to race at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway

Although it was not a regular point-paying NASCAR race, Ross Chastain had entered the race, eyeing the victory. He spoke to The Tennesseean, revealing that this race has been on his bucket list for a long time. He did not win it, but promised to be back someday in the future.

"This was on my bucket list. I've wanted to race here for so long," Chastain exclaimed. "My life with Trackhouse draws me to Nashville a lot. This town makes me feel at home and now I've got a race at the Fairgrounds under my belt. It won't be my last, I promise you that."

Ross Chastain felt that the pro-late model race prepared him for the Ally 400. Last year, he bagged his first NASCAR win from the pole at the 1.33-mile D-shaped oval. Speaking of his experience racing on Thursday, Chastain said,

"I had a shot at the win tonight and I'm happy about that...That prepared me for the big track (Nashville Superspeedway). What this does is makes me sweat in my race suit, driving the car, slipping these Hoosier tires and making me a better race car driver. It's just good to race. Racers race. Football players throw the ball. Baseball players throw the ball. We race cars on Thursday night at the Fairgrounds."

Catch Ross Chastain and Josh Berry live from the Music City at the Ally 400 on June 30, Sunday. The 300-lap race will air live on NBC Sports and Peacock with radio updates on PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR radio.
