NASCAR drivers sent their best wishes to the Paris Olympics ahead of the season taking a break as the quadrennial event take place in the French capital. The most recent Cup Series race came at the Brickyard 400, which Kyle Larson won.
The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is already underway and had a vibrant opening ceremony that showcased athletes from 206 nations against the backdrop of the French capital.
This year, the United States boasts the largest national delegation at the Summer Games, with 593 athletes set to compete. The figure is slightly down from the 613 athletes, who represented the country at the last Summer Games in Tokyo.
Kyle Busch, along with other NASCAR Cup Series stars, has voiced his support for Team USA in the Paris Olympics. NASCAR released a video featuring Ryan Blaney, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Noah Gragson, Todd Gilland, and Kyle Busch, all sending their best wishes to the athletes competing in Paris. The video was captioned:
"Go get it done, @TeamUSA ! Our drivers are cheering you on in the #ParisOlympics! 🇺🇸"
This summer, more than 10,000 athletes from over 200 nations are ready to compete for glory across gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The games feature 329 events across 32 sports, unfolding until Aug. 11 across Paris and 16 other French cities, with one event even taking place in Tahiti.
The 2024 Olympics mark the sixth time France has hosted the Games—three Summer and three Winter—and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Paris Olympics back in 1924.
Kyle Busch looking forward to the two-week NASCAR Olympic break
Following his sixth DNF of the 2024 season, Kyle Busch expressed a need for a pause from what has been a challenging season. It's been a tough stretch with his last victory 43 races ago. Reflecting on his recent performance after the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Busch shared:
"Got right where we wanted to b w a good car and some really good pit calls. I’m really sorry to all my guys and RCR for crashing while trying to b aggressive and get them a top 5 finish. Ready for this two week break. Really need it."
However, Samantha Busch has been sharing updates about their travel challenges on her social media. She mentioned that their daughter, Lennix, only managed to sleep for three hours during their seven-hour flight, which left both parents quite sleep-deprived—Samantha herself only caught an hour of sleep. To top off their first day in Italy, they encountered a mishap with a sound machine due to the wrong adapter, which ended up short-circuiting.
NASCAR will resume after the break with the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway on August 11, 2024.
