Xfinity Series drivers Shane van Gisbergen and Aric Almirola walked up to console a disappointed Parker Kligerman after he missed out on his first-ever win in the series. The racer-turned-reporter was well poised to win Saturday's Drive for the Cure 250 at Charlotte Motor Speedway until NASCAR's caution system stood in the way.

Here is the post-race encounter between Kligerman and his fellow racers:

Kligerman was leading with one lap to go when Leland Honeyman's car broke a tire and rammed straight into the tire barrier. Honeyman could not get his car out of the mess; therefore, a caution was expected.

However, it didn't happen right away. Per reports, NASCAR waited for about 15 seconds before waving the yellow. The race got stretched for a two-lap overtime restart. Kligerman was on the white flag lap at the time and just a few feet away from taking the checkered.

Had the caution come out on the final lap, the field would have been frozen and Kligerman would have won. The restart gave the lead to Sam Mayer on Turn 7 and Kligerman was never able to take it back from the JR Motorsports driver.

While Mayer advanced to the next round of the playoffs, Parker Kligerman was chucked out of the rumble. For someone about to retire from full-time racing in the Xfinity Series at the end of the current season, it was perhaps a major heartbreak.

Parker Kligerman was not angry with NASCAR

As a pit reporter, a NASCAR analyst, and a driver, Parker Kligerman has witnessed several close calls like the one at Charlotte. He knows that NASCAR is an unpredictable sport and that winning and losing is part of the gamble. Therefore, Kligerman did not blame NASCAR for not bringing out the yellow flag when he needed it the most.

"I’m not going to get up here and be angry at NASCAR or everything," Parker Kligerman told the reporters during a post-race interview (via Frontstretch). "I’ve watched plenty from the media side and the fan side and thought, ‘Oh damn, that hurts,’ but here comes another restart, and you just got to refocus, and we did that."
"The laps leading up to that were some of the best that I’ve ever driven my entire career, and I just knew I had to be perfect, and I was. I love this game, and I really wanted it. I really, really, really wanted this," he added (0:26).

As of today, the #48 driver sits 12th in the driver's standings with 2080 points to his name. In 29 starts this season, the Westport, Connecticut, native has amassed four top-5s and thirteen top-10s.

Kligerman has four more opportunities to deliver a win. The Ambetter Health 302 will roll out at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 19 from 7:30 pm ET onwards. Fans can watch the 201-lap event on CW and listen to radio updates on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
