NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was denied victory by his elder brother Kurt Busch at Kentucky Speedway in 2019. The former driver was competing for Chip Ganassi Racing at the time.

Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, piloting the #8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, has experienced a challenging season this year but remains a formidable presence in NASCAR, with 231 career victories across all divisions, including 63 in the Cup Series. Meanwhile, his older brother, Kurt Busch, enjoyed a 23-year career in NASCAR's top division, amassing 43 wins across the sport's top three series. Notably, Kurt secured 34 victories in the Cup Series and was crowned the 2004 champion.

In the 2019 Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway, both brothers were competing against each other, racing for different teams. Kurt Busch was piloting the #1 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing, while his brother Kyle was competing for Joe Gibbs Racing. The Busch brothers dominated the race, securing all stage wins between the two.

As the race went into overtime, Kyle and Kurt Busch were occupying the front row. Both of them fought hard until the final turn when Kyle Busch wiggled, giving Kurt Busch the advantage, and essentially the win. Here's a look at the end of the 2019 Quaker State 400:

Kurt Busch bested his brother by a razor-thin margin of 0.76 seconds, to win the Cup race after a disappointing weekend at Daytona. This marked the #1 driver's first win at Kentucky, and 31st victory overall in the Cup Series.

Kyle Busch is enduring one of the toughest seasons of his career, remaining winless and currently outside the 2024 playoff picture. However, with three regular-season races still on the calendar, the two-time Cup Series champion has a crucial opportunity to turn things around and stage a dramatic comeback.

"I'm very disappointed in myself" - Kyle Busch's brother issues statement after being arrested for reckless driving

On Monday, former Cup Series champion Kurt Busch was arrested by the Iredell County Sheriff's office. Initially stopped for speeding, Busch was subsequently charged with driving while impaired (DWI).

Reportedly, Busch's arrest suggested that he was initially pulled over for speeding, going 63mph in a 45 mph zone. It was later found that Busch's blood alcohol level was 0.17%, as per Iredell Free News, which was beyond the legal limit. Fox Sports journalist Bob Pockrass shared the former driver's statement via a post on X(formerly Twitter)

"Kurt Busch statement: 'I’m very disappointed in myself and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and to my fans. I will work with the authorities to rectify the situation and work with the county to make it a safer place in the future.”

Kurt Busch was released after three hours with his driving license revoked for 30 days. Moreover, he has a court hearing on September 19.
