Kevin Harvick recently shared his thoughts on the NASCAR overtime finish at Nashville. Harvick was of the opinion that NASCAR, besides being a sport, is also an entertainment business.
The recently concluded Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway saw five overtimes altogether, where Joey Logano held off Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick to register his maiden victory in 2024. With this, Logano broke his winless drought, which dated back to the spring of 2023.
Logano took the checkered flag in the fifth and final overtime restart at Lap 331. While the Team Penske driver was lucky to have finished the marathon race, others could not. Interestingly, this entire ordeal was something Harvick enjoyed wholeheartedly.
"We are in the entertainment business," Harvick said in his Happy Hour podcast by Fox. "I think the traditional me would tell you that I want the race to end at the right distance whether it's green or caution. But I like the show."
"I like the fact that the race ended under green flag and they were competing and it added all these different elements to the end of the race. It did drag all the slow cars to the front. You just never know in this sport. I think you have to keep yourself rolling, you have to keep yourself in contention," Kevin Harvick concluded.
Kyle Larson was one such driver who ran out of fuel after the race turned to a green-white-checker finish. As Larson saw his race jeopardized, he took Kyle Busch with him as the #8 driver's reinstatement did him no favor.
Kevin Harvick addresses NASCAR playoff picture
Kevin Harvick recently shared his take on the ongoing NASCAR playoffs tussle. The former Cup Series driver talked about multiple drivers and revealed how the situation can turn on its head with a surprising win.
"I’m telling you, if one person outside of that top 16 wins, it’s really going to get interesting,” Kevin Harvick said. “Martin Truex, I think he’s the only guy that’s safe on points. Ross Chastain, Ty Gibbs, Chris Buescher, and I can’t remember who’s 16th (Alex Bowman). Bubba is out by like 51 points, so he’s in trouble.
Bubba Wallace and Kyle Busch are two big names out of the playoffs spot for now. While Wallace is 51 points behind Alex Bowman, the last driver on the playoffs cut line, Busch is further down.
The 23XI driver is 15th in the Drivers' Standings with 448 points after 19 races. So far, he managed to collect six top ten's, and three top-fives and faced three DNFs.
As for the RCR driver Busch, he is down in 17th with 395 points after the same number of races. He has five top ten's and two top five's to his name, with one pole position and four DNFs.
