Alex Bowman recently shared his thoughts on how far he can go in the playoffs this season. The Hendrick Motorsports driver booked his spot in the playoffs with his first win of the season at Chicago.
The win was significant for Bowman not only because it was his first this season, but because it was his first in two years.
Recently Kevin Harvick asked Bowman on Happy Hour if he feels he can take the #48 to the victory lane again, and how far he can go in the playoffs. The Chicago winner claimed that his approach to the coming races won't change despite him being a race winner this season.
As for his playoffs run, Bowman expressed confidence that he has what it takes to go all the way.
"For us, I think we have to continue to act like the pressure is still there and continue to just approach every week like we need to win races. Pocono is a really good place for us so excited to get there this week. But I think getting that win helps for sure but we can't just be like, 'Okay, we won a race. Now we can just focus on the playoffs.' I think we need to focus on each week and not drop the intensity that we've had," Bowman said. [6:18]
He said that the #48 team is in a good spot with young crew members. Bowman also spoke about how the last month for the #48 team was "pretty rough."
Before Chicago, the #48 had a 15th place finish (Sonoma), 8th (Iowa), 36th (New Hampshire), and 14th place finish (Nashville).
"So getting in victory lane eliminating the points talking now, just trying to be 10/10 every weekend. There's good racetracks coming up for us. The playoffs, if you get hot you can go all the way through. I feel like we have every tool we need and all the parts and pieces we need to make that happen," he added. [7:09]
Bowman claimed he's excited to be back in the victory lane and hoped they can make "a lot of noise" in the playoffs and have a good year.
Jeff Gordon happy with Alex Bowman finally breaking his winless streak
Before his Chicago win on Sunday, Alex Bowman's last win in NASCAR was in March 2022 at Las Vegas. Since then, he had gone 80 races without a win.
But now that he has won a race, and as have his other three Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jeff Gordon believes they can push the reset button now.
"It’s amazing for all of us to have all for cars in the playoffs, probably a bit of a reset now. That weight just keeps getting heavier and heavier each week which makes it harder and harder," Gordon said as per Hendrick Motorsports.
The 4x Cup champion claimed the Chicago win was "a huge day" for both Alex Bowman and his crew chief Blake Harris.
Gordon added that he couldn't be happier for the #48 team given the pressure they were under before this win.
