Kyle Busch is without a win this season and in danger of missing out on the playoffs. The Richard Childress Racing driver has suffered multiple disappointing results this year. But in the two-week Olympic break, RCR brought in a new engineer for the 2x Cup champion in Ben Lynch.

Because of this, Kyle Busch was asked on Saturday (August 10) if there was a direction he wanted RCR to go in to improve and find the missing elements. Busch replied:

"I don't know that you're going to find everything that you're missing right now without making complete key new hires from outside, which they're also working on. So I could probably be more optimistic with next year's stuff than how we finish this year. But we know we need to finish strong and we need to do it with what we've got." [1:25]

When asked whether he had any input in getting Ben Lynch on board the #8 team, Busch said that Lynch began the season with the #3 team of Austin Dillon, and working with him so far has been good.

"Good start. Just trying to mix things up, change things up and find a direction that we can continue to improve the whole program and seems as though this weekend was a good kickoff to that," Busch said. [00:58]

Kyle Busch reflects on his 'dismal and heartbreaking' season in 2024

Being winless this year, Kyle Busch has only finished inside the top 5 on two occassions. Other than that, the 2x Cup champion has four finishes inside the top 10.

But Busch's luck went on a disastrous run in the past few weeks when the #8 driver registered five DNF finishes in seven races.

His run of bad results and the overall state of his season was something Busch expressed frustration about ahead of the Chicago Street Race.

"It’s been so dismal and so heartbreaking that I have a hard time dealing with enough stuff in my life that every Sunday to keep adding to it is getting harder and harder to deal with," Busch said, as per NBC Sports.

The RCR driver would go on to finish inside the top 10 at Chicago, but in the next race at Pocono, another DNF would follow, with a 25th place finish at Indianapolis before the Olympics break.

But RCR's woes, as troubling as they are for their star driver, cannot be fixed rightaway as per Richard Childress. He claimed that all can't be fixed in the middle of the year as a lot of it is engineering related. Childress added that RCR is strong in some areas and weak in others.

However, he emphasized on the need to strengthen the engineering department. And with the #8 team getting a new engineer ahead of Richmond, the tide might just start turning in Kyle Busch's favor with four races left in the regular season.
