NASCAR stalwart Greg Biffle thanked Elon Musk for sending his machines to the helicopter rescue mission from Biffle's race shop in Florida to Western North Carolina. It has been three days since Hurricane Helene ravaged North Carolina. Civilians are still stranded by the storm, mostly on the Western North Carolina and Tennessee border.
The impact of the storm affected the Mountain Island Lake area, Chimney Rock, Asheville, Boone, Banner Elk, and several other towns in Western North Carolina. Per Duke Energy, the main electric power and natural gas supplier in the region, 80,000 customers are yet to receive power.
Thankfully, Polaris, a leader in the automotive industry, alongside Musk's SpaceX and its subsidiary, Starlink, have sent 500 units of their aircraft to join Biffle's rescue mission.
"Special thanks to Polaris, SpaceX, and Starlink," Greg Biffle said in his recent post on X. "They're sending 500 units to my shop currently. Will be there early in the morning around 5 a.m. We're going to be taking those (to the) airport and ready to deploy them as soon as sun up into helicopters to all these areas in western North Carolina. Polaris (is) also donating a full thing of generator, local companies donating all the fuel containers they have in their inventory; I believe interstate cycle."
According to reports, parts of I-40 and I-26 have been washed away. Every road that enters West North Carolina has been closed.
"Lots of things happening for these stranded people up in the mountains...we're going to keep the effort going... We're going to keep flying this stuff in. Hopefully, the roads are going to continue to get better but thank you Starlink. Thank you SpaceX, thank you Polaris; everybody for racing out. Everybody is sending their machines like crazy to help this effort. We're so blessed in this country have this kind of support," Biffle added.
Power is expected to get reinstated in 28 counties by October 4, but the natives of Buncombe, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Watauga, Rutherford, and McDowell might have to wait longer.
Greg Biffle joins hands with Rick Hendrick and Joe Gibbs in the rescue mission
Besides Greg Biffle, several NASCAR dignitaries like Rick Hendrick and Joe Gibbs have gotten involved actively in the relief process. It has been reported that the trio have been sending their private helicopters to escort the stranded citizens of the Carolinas.
Although neither Hendrick Motorsports nor Joe Gibbs Racing posted anything regarding their personal involvement in the situation, Bozi Tatarevic, editor for Road & Track, recently uploaded an aerial image of the flight paths taken by Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing helicopters en route to Western North Carolina.
NASCAR fans can also aid in hurricane relief by making any amount of donation to the American Red Cross.
