Two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr., who returned to his Late Model roots last weekend at Virginia's Langley Speedway, shared his thoughts on the current state of Late Model Stock car racing, expressing optimism and enthusiasm about the series.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed his belief that the current era is a peak time for Late Model Stock racing, highlighting the series’ strong position despite its challenges. He also mentioned that today’s racing scene is facing issues such as high costs and financial pressures that make it difficult for such drivers to compete in series like the CARS Tour.

Speaking to FloRacing about the current condition of Late Model Stock racing, here’s what the two-time Daytona 500 winner said:

“I think we're living in peak times right; these are really good times for late model stock racing. There's been good times in the past. We've got challenges today. Things are expensive. Racing is hard. Budgets are tough. Guys can't afford to run a touring series like the CARs Tour.”

Dale Jr. continued:

“They can run a local show, so there's different types of outfits out there and there's challenges, but even in the past peaks there were challenges, but we're in a really great era right now, and everybody should really appreciate it and come support it." [2:10]

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been actively involved in the Late Model racing scene, not only as a commentator but also as a participant. His feedback also reflects the ongoing efforts to grow and elevate Late Model Stock racing, making it an exciting time for participants as well as for fans.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reflects on his debut Late Model event at Langley Speedway

A former NASCAR driver turned broadcaster earned a fifth-place finish on his debut at the Hampton Heat 200 Late Model race at Langley. His top-five finish came after a patient effort, which was rewarded by gaining six spots in the final 25 of the 200-lap race.

Despite not having enough speed to compete with the race leaders, Dale Jr. is satisfied with his first trip to Langley Speedway. He also praised the competitive nature of the Hampton Heat 200 and had a great time at this track.

After the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said (via Racing America):

“I'm real proud of it. A lot of fun watching those guys duke it out up there. We just didn't have enough car to get up there. Congrats to Butterbean, Lee and his team. They represent Late Model Stock racing really good.”
“Thanks to all the fans who showed up, man. You guys are awesome. Awesome crowd tonight. Great support from the community. Langley's special. I had a blast, I'll be coming back.”

Dale Jr. has plans to return to Virginia’s Langley Speedway again next year.
