On Tuesday afternoon, Joe Gibbs Racing officially announced Chase Briscoe as the driver of the #19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry XSE for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season and beyond. After the driver announcement, Joe Gibbs, who owns JGR, revealed the reason behind signing Briscoe as the replacement of Martin Truex Jr., beginning in 2025.

During the driver announcement press conference, Joe Gibbs explained how Briscoe landed at JGR. Gibbs emphasized that character is the starting point when it comes to picking talent, as drivers not only perform well on the track but also represent their sponsors.

Beyond character, Gibbs also sees the necessity of talent, as he believes team's sponsors expect competitive performance and victories, and Chase Briscoe perfectly fits for them under these criteria. Gibbs saw character and desire to win as the primary reasons to sign Briscoe. In a press conference, Gibbs explained:

“Our drivers, we feel like it’s the character, and then, of course, what comes with us is we have to win. None of our sponsors say to us they’re okay with riding in the back. We’ve got to compete, you want to win. So then it starts into the talent.”
“I think it’s never easy. It’s complicated really, when we pick people, or pick somebody like this to takeover for us on our race team. Huge deal for us. … It’s the most important thing we do, is the people that work for us, the people on our team, and certainly Chase, we felt like fit that for us.”

Chase Briscoe signing with JGR news didn’t come as a surprise as Christopher Bell accidentally leaked his JGR move in a media interaction at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last week.

Briscoe has shown potential in his young Cup career, collecting 27 top-10 finishes and a maiden win at Phoenix Raceway in 2022.

Chase Briscoe shared his emotions on joining JGR in 2025

Chase Briscoe currently drives the #14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Stewart-Haas Racing, the organization that will be closing its operations at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The 29-year-old driver has been associated with SHR since his Cup debut in 2021. He will begin his new chapter of his Cup career with JGR next season.

Expressing his emotions on signing a multi-year deal with the championship-winning Cup team, Briscoe said in a team release:

“I’m excited for this opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing and Bass Pro Shops. From a competition standpoint, JGR is the place to be if you want to go win races week in and week out and to race for the championship every year.”

In his fourth season with SHR, Chase Briscoe currently sits 16th in the Cup Series points table. He has managed to secure two top-5s and six top-10 finishes so far in 18 races this season. His season’s best finish of P2 came last week at New Hampshire.
