For NASCAR Cup Series regular Daniel Suarez, performance matters more than his contract extension with Trackhouse Racing. Days after the Mexican-born speedster won a race in the NASCAR Brasil Series, Trackhouse Racing announced that Suarez would return behind the wheel of the #99 car next year.

However, according to Daniel Suarez, the extension had been done for quite some time and only the news of the same was left to be announced. Now, with the announcement made official, Suarez revealed what he was concerned about the most.

"If you perform, everything takes care of itself," Suarez explained (via racer.com). "I’ve been here in the Cup Series for some time now, and I understand how it works, and you just have to perform, and at Trackhouse...(the last three years have) been a little bit of a struggle; it’s not a secret. You guys know the numbers."

As of today, Daniel Suarez stands 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 460 points. He is in the playoffs; thanks to his victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway in February. However, the 32-year-old has amassed just three top 10s and two top 5s so far, with an average finish of 18.2.

"We have work to do. We are not happy with where we’re at, but we’re happy with where we’re heading," Suarez said. "We’re working very, very hard behind the scenes to get the train in the right direction. We have great people. We have a lot of support from a lot of sponsors and from Chevrolet, and we know we’re heading in the right direction."

Daniel Suarez will start P21 in Sunday's race at Richmond Raceway alongside his teammate Ross Chastain, who drives the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Tune in to NBC Sports, or the USA Network at 6 PM ET to watch the Trackhouse Racing duo in action.

Daniel Suarez makes the headlines with a unique accomplishment

As NASCAR went on a two-week break following this year's Brickyard 400, Daniel Suarez tied the knot with his longtime partner Julia Piquet. Soon after the big day, Suarez emerged victorious in the second of the three NASCAR Brasil Series races at the Autodromo de Interlagos in the city of Sao Paulo.

Earlier this season, the 2016 Xfinity Series champion won the NASCAR Mexico Series expedition race, which was held alongside the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum. Suarez was also the 2010 Mexico champion before he switched to American open-wheel racing.

This makes him the only NASCAR driver to have amassed three international series wins in a single year.

Moreover, Daniel Suarez has recently earned a dual Mexico-U.S. citizenship. Therefore, it is perhaps safe to say that 2024 has been quite eventful for the Chevy Star so far.
