Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott's father, Bill Elliott, won his first and last NASCAR Cup Series Championship in 1988. He has a promising career and has competed in 828 races in his NASCAR Cup Series career, securing six wins, 15 top fives, and 22 top tens with six pole positions in his 37-year career.

Bill Elliott has achieved 320 top-tens, 55 poles, and 44 wins throughout his career. He holds the record for six consecutive pole positions at NASCAR's longest track from 1985 to 1987. Elliott's last race was in 2012 at the Coke Zero 400 and was in P49 in the 2012 season. Chase and Bill Elliott are one of the father-son duos who have won the Cup Series Championship.

Bill Elliott was born on October 8, 1985, and began his NASCAR career on February 29, 1976, in the Winston Series. His first race was at Rockingham and he qualified in P33 in the field of 36 cars. Elliott finished in P32 before his oil pump busted out in his Ford Tornio. He continued racing without landing a sponsor for five years.

In mid-1977, Chase Elliott's father parted ways from Penske Racing and replaced Tornio. This move paid off well, and he secured his first top finish at the Southern 500. After a wait of two years, he secured his first top-five finish in the same race. He landed a major sponsorship in 1980 from Harry Melling of the Melling Racing and never looked back.

The #9 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver Chase Elliott recalled the time he used to attend his father Bill Elliott's races. The Stock Car Racing Association shared a tribute video of Elliott remembering the glory and fame his father reached becoming a pinnacle of motorsports.

Bill Elliott's major wins were before Chase Elliott was born, These include winning the Daytona 500 twice, the Southern 500 three times, and becoming the Cup Series Champion in 1988.

“This era of his career was one of the very few years that I was around to get to watch him race. You know, a lot of his career was prior to me being born,” Elliott said of his dad’s NASCAR Cup Series career.

Elliott continued:

“Those couple years he spent over at Ray’s place in early 2000 was really the time that I was just old enough to kind of start to learn what was going on and realize how cool racing was. And those were the years that made me want to do it. I have some memories of him winning at Pocono.”
