NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass shared an update this week about the new $7.7 billion-worth media rights deal that the organization has signed, starting in 2025. Several fans expressed this discontentment with the details that Pockrass has revealed.
The announcement of the new media deal, set to start after 2024, came just ahead of the 2024 NASCAR Awards in Nashville. The new deal involves Fox, NBC, Amazon, and Warner Bros. Discovery. This new agreement, valued at about a 40% increase from the organization's previous $820 million annual deal with Fox and NBC, highlights the organization's push toward streaming.
Recently, Pockrass responded to a fan's query on X (formerly Twitter) about the breakdown of the broadcast for the practice and qualifying sessions in the upcoming Cup Series campaign. Pockrass wrote,
"Next year, for the first half of the year, Amazon Prime Video has Cup practice and qualifying (except Clash, Daytona, all-star, which FOX Sports still has) ... for second half, Cup practice and qualifying on truTV and Max."
Several fans reacted to this comment with disapointment. They also expressed their dissatisfaction with the new deal.
"What a disaster of a TV deal smh," a fan wrote
"What a shit show NASCAR has created." another fan said
"This kind of stitched together coverage has played a huge part in killing the sport’s attraction to a larger and newer audience… " another fan wrote
"So they'll still be unwatchable, just in different ways." a fan expressed
"lmao. "NASCAR is struggling for TV ratings, what should we do? Let's make it way harder to watch" another fan expressed
One particular fan claimed that the new broadcast structure would lead to a loss in viewership.
"I’m calling this now, viewership will take a 20% hit next year by late spring. When fans can’t follow the weekly story, they will move on." the fan stated
Meanwhile, The Cup Series playoffs return to Martinsville Speedway for the Round of 8 finale. Six drivers will compete for two remaining seats in the Championship 4. Fans can catch the action live on November 3, available on NBC Sports, MRN, and SiriusXM at 2:00 PM ET.
NASCAR Insider Bob Pockgrass hints at potential developments for Homestead-Miami Speedway for 2026
Homestead-Miami Speedway was replaced by Phoenix Raceway ahead of the 2020 NASCAR campaign as host of the championship race. Homestead is a fan favorite and is known to provide exceptional racing experiences.
In response to a fan's query this week, Bob Pockrass hinted at the possibility of the championship race to return to Homestead-Miami Speedway. He claimed that the "city is working" towards reinstating its championship status. He said,
"Homestead was the championship/season finale from 2002-2019. The city is working on a bid to NASCAR to try to bring the 2026 champ races to Homestead."
23XI Racing's driver of the #45 Toyota Camry, Tyler Reddick, dominated the Straight Talk Wireless 400 and drove down victory lane at Homestead-Miami on Sunday. This victory has solidified his presence in the championship race at Phoenix Raceway, scheduled for November 10, at 3:00 PM ET.
