Former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace recently shared a video of legend Dale Earnhardt's final victory in the Cup Series. Wallace, who finished second in the same race, took to his social media to re-tweet the video from NASCAR Classics, an account that posts archive footage and photographs.
The former Andy Petree Racing driver shared the clip on X that showed the final moments of the 2000 season's Talladega race that took place in October. Wallace also added:
"Friends have been sending me this all morning. What a great memory"
Dale Earnhardt secured the win at Talladega, beating driver Mike Skinner, with the help of Wallace. With the Xfinity series driver pushing Earnhardt, the two were able to push past the leaders of the race giving the NASCAR Hall of Famer his final victory before he passed away in 2001. Speaking about Wallace's help to get the top prize, Earnhardt said at the time:
"It was wild. I didn't have any thought that I have a chance of winning this race, starting where I did on that restart. Boy, as we kept working away and got on the outside of Kenny -- Kenny Wallace really worked hard with us and he done a good job. I don't think we could have got back up there without Kenny." Speaking about the move that secured his only second-place finish in the Cup Series that season, Wallace said:
"It was just a deal where it was vintage, here I am trying to win the race ... he comes down in front of me and I'm thinking, 'My God, I've got no choice now but to help this guy (Earnhardt) win.'"
Kenny Wallace got his first start in racing in 1988, thanks to Dale Earnhardt. The seven-time Cup Series Champion gave the younger driver a start in the Busch Series race in Martinsville where he finished 11th.
Over his time in the Xfinity Series, Wallace accumulated 9 wins, along with 66 Top 5s. During his career racing in the Cup, Xfinity, and Truck series, Wallace has had 904 starts until his retirement from the sport in 2015.
