Former NASCAR Cup Series champions Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott will be seen racing alongside each other at the Five Flags Speedway tomorrow. Renowned journalist Matt Weaver recently interviewed Elliott on the same. The Hendrick Motorsports icon will be driving the number 9 FR8 Racing Chevy, sponsored by Hendrickcars.com and the Chase Elliott Store.

Just a few moments before the interview, Kevin Harvick had come up to Elliot to greet him. Just like Elliott, Harvick will also be driving a Chevrolet. The Dawsonville native jokingly asked the former Ford pilot what a CARS Tour enthusiast like Harvick was doing in an ASA Southern Super Series race.

Recalling the light-hearted encounter, the 2020 Cup Series champion said,

"He came down a while ago, said hey and I said, 'What are you doing here?' Really cool to have him here and nice to see him having fun."

Kevin Harvick flaunts 60 NASCAR Cup Series victories, which he amassed driving for over two decades in the arena of NASCAR. The veteran racer retired from full-time racing last year and joined eminent NASCAR personalities like Clint Bowyer and Mike Joy as a FOX Sports analyst.

"He put the time in on the Cup side and that's a grind to do it for what, 20 years or somewhat years," Elliott explained speaking of Harvick's career in the NASCAR Cup Series. "We are very fortunate to do what we do, but there are definitely days that are tough. He withstood that for a long period. (I) have a lot of respect for that."

Chase Elliott is currently tied with his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson at 620 points. 18 races into the season, Elliott has picked one victory, seven top-5s and nine top-10s. He has also led a combined 178 laps.

Chase Elliott feels humbled by late-model races

Besides being one of the most popular names in NASCAR, Chase Elliott is a two-time Snowball Derby winner. However, Elliott feels that racing in the Southern Super Series is quite different from racing in the 300-lap annual late-model stock car race.

On that note, Elliott told Weaver in the previous interview,

"They've always had little bit of a different vibe to me...coming to places like this, it has such great competition you just got such a true check as to where you are as a driver."
"I'm thankful for that, because I think you need places like that to humble you when you can be humbled and also to teach you lessons that you need to be taught to have any type of chance down the road," he added.

Chase Elliott has been racing Late Models more frequently than before. As reported by Racing America, the NASCAR driver competed in the ASA STARS National Tour at New Smyrna Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway earlier this year.

Chase Elliott last appeared at the Five Flags Speedway during the 53rd Snowball Derby in 2020, where he finished third. Catch this year's race live on June 28, Friday at 8 p.m. EST, exclusively on Racing America.
