Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle was awarded the 2024 Myers Brothers Award for his continued humanitarian efforts in aiding mountain communities during the tough period they faced after Hurricane Helene's devastation. Biffle used his personal helicopter to rescue trapped people and supply essentials to the communities.

The Myers Brothers Award has been named after the two earliest competitors in NASCAR history; Billy Myers and Bob Myers. Awarded by the National Motorsports Press Association, it has been given since 1958 and recognizes "individuals and/or groups who have contributed immensely to the sport of stock car racing."

Greg Biffle's extraordinary work, helping the communities during their time of need with his personal helicopter, did not go unrecognized. He revealed that he got a call earlier to rescue one of the families, so he went to the airport, powered up his helicopter, and flew to help them. However, the distress calls kept on coming and he was contacted through 4,000 messages within a span of 12 days for help.

"It started on a Saturday morning when I got a phone call for somebody in need of assistance," Biffle said. "And what I thought was one family turned in to be, a pretty devastating event and just escalated one thing after another. And I thought, you know, I’ve got the resources, and if I don’t go, who’s going to go? So that day, I drove to the airport. Power was out, so we used the tug to get the hanger door open, got my helicopter out, put fuel on and tried to go rescue that family."
"And what turned out to be 4,000 messages after that just turned into 12 days of flying, sun up to sun down. We feel good about what we did. And then over 100 helicopters joined the effort, a lot of guys from this room. So it was a great effort and I’m glad that I was part of it."

Greg Biffle interested in taking part in another Daytona 500 race

Biffle took part in more than 500 Cup Series races over 16 years during his NASCAR career but never had the chance to win at Daytona. In 2010 and 2012, he had his best finish at the esteemed season-opening event, a P3.

He last ran down in the 500-mile event in 2022 with the NY Racing Team in the #44 Chevrolet, but retired after 136 laps, taking a final finish in 36th place.

Greg Biffle recently revealed his wish to race in the Daytona 500 once again. He mentioned that his chances of racing in 2025 are "slim," but would like to get back to the track in a more competitive car.

"I don’t have anything in the works right now, so I would say Daytona in February is probably slim," Greg Biffle said. I definitely will be there. I love that time of the year and Daytona, so I’ll be down there wandering around, but as far as being behind the wheel, it’s probably unlikely (in 2025)."
"I want to put something together and run another 500 in a good, competitive car. So I need to get off my butt and start working on it and find a good car to drive."

During his career, Greg Biffle bagged 19 race wins and a season-best finish at second place. Although he never won the Cup Series championship, he did manage to win in Xfinity back in 2002.
