“What’s the point of worrying?”: Kyle Larson sees no good in contemplating over Iowa’s surface with questionable repave

After he secured the pole for tomorrow's Cup race at Iowa Speedway, its first ever event in the series, Kyle Larson was asked whether he was still pessimistic about the track's recent repave that has drawn much attention and criticism. After the practice and qualifying sessions, there seemed a chance that drivers' outlooks had changed, and Larson was accordingly questioned about the possibility.

"I think there’s still so much unknown, so I think that’s exciting for race fans and all that... even drivers," Larson began. "There’s probably more drivers in the field that feel like they have an opportunity to have a good run because if this place was old, worn out, bumpy, your Hendrick Motorsports teams, your Joe Gibbs Racing teams, they’re going to be the ones dominating, where now, I feel, especially with qualifying shaking up the order and all that, I think the starting lineup is a little bit odd." "So yeah, I think more teams probably feel like they have an opportunity. And then there’s pit strategy stuff that goes along with it, so there’s just more opportunity across the board," he added.

Yung Money went on to claim that drivers would prefer the old surface, but now that the repave has been done, there's no point in wondering what could've been.

"Obviously, I think the drivers would have more fun with the old surface, but what’s the point of worrying about that at this point? You can’t put the old surface back down."

The repave is in fact only a partial one. NASCAR claimed that they didn't have enough time to do a full repave on Iowa Speedway.

Kyle Larson didn't know why drivers suffered from tire issues on Friday on sketchy Iowa surface

Denny Hamlin refused to believe that NASCAR couldn't complete the repaving at Iowa due to shortage of time. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver shared his disappointment at the track's surface in strong words on his podcast, "Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin."

"It shows where NASCAR is a little different. We don't have standards when it comes to facilities. We have standards, but they are very very loose. I don't buy the fact that we ran out of time."

Following this, on Friday, a few drivers suffered from tire issues during practice. However, Kyle Larson refused to blame the surface of the racetrack.

Larson claimed he didn't know why drivers were "blowing so many tires." He said that he hadn't had a chance to talk with his team, and even they had had no time to study the tires from their end, but he didn't feel there was an answer to why that was happening.
