Denny Hamlin and Danica Patrick have shared a bitter-sweet relationship over the years. While Danica has sometimes praised Hamlin as a "more fair" driver, there were also moments of intense frustration, like in 2015 when she was furious with the Joe Gibbs Racing driver for a racing incident. But recently, a photo from Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s wedding featuring both Hamlin and Patrick went viral and reminded fans of their friendship.
Patrick is widely recognized as a trailblazer for women in NASCAR. She stands out as one of the most successful female drivers in the history of American open-wheel racing. In 2008, Patrick made history by becoming the first woman to win the Indy Japan 300. Starting from the P6 position, Patrick, racing for Andretti Green Racing at the time, maneuvered her way to the front of the pack to claim the top spot and secure the victory. Her racing career spanned across competitions, from Indycar to the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series, where she has consistently broken new ground in a sport traditionally dominated by men.
When Earnhardt Jr. tied the knot with his long-time sweetheart Amy Reimann in 2017, the ceremony was held at Childress Vineyards in North Carolina, a venue owned by NASCAR team owner Richard Childress. Among the stylish attendees was Danica Patrick, who not only made a grand entrance but also ended up catching the bouquet—a moment she shared on Instagram.
In a picture captured at the event, Hamlin was spotted in the background of her celebratory photo, unwittingly photobombing the shot. While Danica posed for what appeared to be a selfie, Hamlin was caught mid-conversation or laughing with another guest. The caption of the photo read:
"Ohhhhhh, who caught the bouquet?! 😜💐"
Danica Patrick calls Denny Hamlin a "total a**"
While they've always maintained that they were friends, Danica Patrick and Denny Hamlin have had their share of clashes too. Recently, after a contentious win by Hamlin at Richmond, Danica Patrick voiced her opinions on the Kenny "Wallace Conversation" podcast. She remarked:
"I think he (Hamlin) is a total a** on the track. Like he’s pissed off so many people. Not as many as like Joey Logano, let’s say."
Later in the conversation, however, she offered a more balanced view, adding:
"On track, I think he (Hamlin) is more fair than a lot. And I’ve always had a pretty decent time on track with him, other than these moments where it just feels like he just pushes too hard, and doesn’t leave room for error. So I don’t think he’s as bad as some."
In the ongoing season, Hamlin is holding strong at fourth place in the standings, with three wins under his belt this regular season. He's racked up 706 points and has led 772 laps over 22 starts. With just four races remaining before the playoffs, all eyes are on him to see if he can clinch another victory and solidify his playoff position.
