In September 2023, Dale Earnhardt Jr. reminisced about his father’s “Sunday Money” yacht, which had been sold to another family. The yacht was designed and constructed in the late ‘90s but Earnhardt Sr. couldn't take possession.
This was because of the crash during the 2001 season-opening Daytona 500, which took his life. The yacht still stood as a memoir for the family. But in 2018, it was sold off, valued at a whopping $4.2 million.
Speaking on the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he had gone to meet that family and then realized that the boat was sold off. They have reportedly kept most of the interior the same as Dale Earnhardt Sr. planned it, with plenty of brass work and the popular designs from the late '80s and early '90s. He said:
"When he passed away, they were building a brand new boat that eventually got finished," he said (at 4:10). "And his old boat, the original Sunday Money, is still out there. I met the family just recently in like the last two years that owns it."
"They say the interior is as is the way they bought it and they didn't want it to change," he claimed. "They know it's dad's, they know. They kind of kept it a lot of, you know, as you can imagine, like the late '80s and early '90s brass and all that good stuff."
What made Dale Earnhardt Sr’s $4.2 million “Sunday Money” yacht special?
Veteran NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr. was one of the most competitive drivers on the NASCAR grid. His success in the Cup Series earned him seven championships, equalling legendary Richard Petty.
Earnhardt Sr also had other interests. One was his "Sunday Money" custom yacht, worth $4 million.
Formerly located in Florida, the yacht was named after the Brooks and Dunn song, which had been written with Earnhardt. It was put up in the Dale Earnhardt Winston Cup Collection album.
The exterior provides covered seating for eight people with multiple access to the deck. Inside, the yacht looks no less than a mini-palace. It features a minibar with a refrigerator, a television, and comfortable couches for seating.
There is another dining area inside for eight people, made mostly out of wood. It has a kitchen with another dining table and storage for the cutlery. The stairs then go down to the VIP guest room, which has a large bed and a bathroom.
Furthermore, there are two more bedrooms alongside one master bedroom. Most of the furniture is made from dark wood, while the flooring is marble. The master stay room also has a 42-inch TV screen.
The exteriors consist of two L-shaped seating couches on the deck, and the open area also has two sun lounges with more seating facilities.
