After taking a short trip to Italy during NASCAR’s mid-season Olympic break, Kyle Larson returned to racing competing in the dirt track racing this weekend. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion took part in the opening night of the two-race weekend of World of Outlaws Ironman 55 at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 on Friday (August 2).

Driving the #57 sprint car for Silva Motorsports, Kyle Larson won the opening race of the World of Outlaws Ironman 55 at I-55 Raceway. Larson emerged victorious after beating James McFadden on the final lap.

The win means a lot because Larson started the race from 21st position in 24-dirt sprint car drivers. He crossed the finish line 0.53 seconds ahead of McFadden to take the checkered flag. Larson will return on Saturday night with an aim to sweep the weekend.

Expressing his emotions after the win, the #5 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Cup driver said (via WorldofOutlaws.com):

"I’m out of breath. I’ve been screaming the whole time since I got the checkered flag. I can’t say enough about Paul, Trevor, Doug, everybody on this team for working so hard.

"We’ve been terrible, and really, really bad tonight, too. And they’ve just been working hard, trying to get the car better each time. I felt like we were pretty good there in the Feature. I’m just super thankful. This is amazing".

Meanwhile, James McFadden finished runner-up, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, Carson Macedo and Donny Schatz in the top-five. Logan Schuchart, David Gravel, Michael Kofoid, Giovanni Scelzi and Brad Sweet completed the top-10.
