Ahead of Sunday’s (August 11) NASCAR Cup Series Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway, Kyle Larson participated in the World of Outlaws Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway on Thursday, August 8. It’s the second of two qualifying nights for the 2024 Knoxville Nationals on the half-mile of Knoxville Raceway.
Driving the #57 sprint car for Silva Motorsports, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson won Thursday's qualifying night at the Knoxville Nationals and earned the pole for Saturday’s (August 10) $190,000-to-win NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals finale.
Kyle Larson, who started sixth, emerged victorious after grabbing the lead from Rico Abreu with two laps to go and went on to win his four consecutive sprint car races with #57 owner Paul Silva. Larson crossed the finish line 0.399 seconds ahead of Abreu to take the checkered flag.
Reflecting on the win after the race, the #5 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Cup driver said (via WorldofOutlaws.com):
“Rico was doing a good job as the leader and doing a good job through traffic. And Carson (Macedo) got kind of rolling there for a minute and thankfully I was able to get by him. I didn’t know exactly what to do.”
“I felt like if you could hit the bottom, it was the best place to be, and I think Rico knew that as well… We were able to put ourselves in position to get another win. It feels really good. The car felt great during the feature.”
Meanwhile, Rico Abreu finished runner-up, followed by Carson Macedo, Tyler Courtney, and Bill Balog in the top five. Daryn Pittman, Brad Sweet, Brady Bacon, Zeb Wise, and Brian Brown completed the top 10.
