Kaden Honeycutt won the Pro Truck race on Thursday, which kicked off the 57th annual Snowball Derby. Original winner Steven Davis was disqualified for using aluminum lug nuts in his car, thus giving the victory to Honeycutt, a CARS Tour Pro Late Model champion. On Sunday, he recorded perhaps the biggest achievement in his career, winning the finals.
Honeycutt is a professional race car driver from Aledo, Texas. He drives the No. 45 NASCAR Truck Series entry for Niece Motorsports and the No. 10 machine for Kaden Honeycutt Racing in the 602 Crate Dirt Late Model series.
Honeycutt started racing Bandoleros when he was eight. Even at that tender age, he amassed victories all over Alabama and Texas. Four years later, in 2016, Honeycutt tried his hand at driving INEX Legend Cars and experienced similar success in the Young Lions division.
In 2017, Honeycutt moved to the Pro Series and picked up a win at the prestigious Las Vegas Bullring Showdown. He spent the next two years running select ARCA Menards Racing Series, Super Late Model, and IMCA Dirt Modified races.
In 2022, the 20-year-old speedster took part in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour for Barry Nelson Motorsports. In 13 starts, Honeycutt amassed a win, five top-5s, and 11 top-10s, thus finishing inside the top-4 on championship points.
The same year, Honeycutt ran a part-time schedule with Tim Vine Racing and On-Point Motorsports in the Truck Series and delivered one top 10 and three top 15 finishes in nine starts. Last year, he competed in the Dale Earnhardt Jr.-owned CARS Tour and bagged a pair of runner-up finishes at the South Carolina 400 and Southern National Motorsports Park Turkey Classic.
Kaden is also an active member of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in New York State that aims to battle brain tumors and other forms of cancer in kids. He is known to run the logo on his cars as well as his driving suit.
“Definitely not how I like to win a race”- Kaden Honeycutt comes clean on inherited victory
Following his victory in the 50-lap event at Five Flags Speedway, Honeycutt said that he had never won a race like that before. It’s not how he likes winning races either. In a post-race interview, he stated,
“It was definitely not how I like to win a race. Honestly, I’ve never really had that happen to me before. I hate the way that it went down. I struggled a little bit early, we went with low air just hoping it would pay off in the long run but we never really had one. Thankfully, that last restart I was able to go from fourth to second and ultimately that was what let us be able to win the race.”
Initially, Honeycutt aimed to win four races on Derby weekend. Following the unexpected win, he eyed the Derby qualifying and the Mods of Mayhem races, both scheduled for Friday night.
“Hopefully we can get a good qualifying run in and get into the top-five, and have a good Sunday,” he added.
It all worked out as he was able to beat the 2024 Truck Series champion Ty Majeski with 18 to go and hold off Stephen Nasse over the concluding laps of Sunday's race. As per FloRacing, Honeycutt became the fourth driver to start from outside the front row and still win the event.
