Mastering a track is not an easy feat in NASCAR, while all the tracks during the Cup Series calendar provide different challenges, there are drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Richard Petty, and Darrell Waltrip, who have achieved this incredible accolade. The cars react differently on each track, and a driver would find it hard to put their complete focus on a single track because of the increasing number of circuits and speedways.
While a driver might be competitive with multiple wins during a NASCAR season, it is often hard to find them winning on a single track repeatedly. Considering Jimmie Johnson's example, who is widely regarded as one of the best drivers in the sport with seven Championships, tied at the top with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty, he participated in over 20 Daytona 500s throughout his racing career. However, he only won the esteemed race twice.
Examples like this prove that laying one's expertise on a single track is quite a challenge. Despite this, there have been drivers in the sport's history who have repeatedly showcased their competence by winning on tracks over and over again through the years. Considering a benchmark, here are the only three drivers in NASCAR history to claim over 10 victories on a single track.
#3 Jimmie Johnson: 11 NASCAR wins at Dover
Throughout his racing career, Johnson proved to be an extremely competitive driver. Most of his racing underwent the Hendrick Motorsports tag in the #48 Chevy, claiming 83 wins in close to the 700 races he has participated to date. Of these victories, he won at the Dover Motor Speedway 11 times.
The one-mile track features tight turns and close battles which can turn the competition upside down, however, it never seemed to be too big of an issue with Johnson as he claimed over ten victories on the track.
#2 Darrell Waltrip: 12 wins at Bristol, 11 at Martinsville
Waltrip debuted in the Cup Series back in 1972 but it wasn't until three years later in 1975 that he would win his first race in Nashville. His notable streak comes down to Bristol, the 0.5-mile track where he claims 12 wins during his career, asserting dominance with seven consecutive wins on the track between 1981 and 1984.
The 61-year-old also bagged 11 wins at Martinsville. Waltrip claimed three Cup Series championships throughout his illustrious career, the last race of which actually took place in Martinsville.
#1 Richard Petty- Multiple racetracks
Widely regarded as the most competitive and successful driver in NASCAR's history, Richard Petty set a new benchmark of performance for the drivers racing alongside him at the time, but at the same time made himself a legend for generations to come. He claimed 200 victories in over 1,100 races he took part in.
There were multiple tracks where he dominated during his career, which spanned over three decades. Notably, he won 15 races at Martinsville between 1960 and 1979, 15 at North Wilkesboro, 13 at Richmond, and 11 at Rockingham.
