Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott won the 2024 National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Most Popular Driver award in the NASCAR Cup Series. Elliott earned the honor during Friday (Nov. 22) night’s NASCAR Awards Ceremony at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

NASCAR recently released the top five Most Popular driver names in voting polls, and Elliott won the award after beating drivers like Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, and Kyle Larson. The award has been presented since 1953 and is given out each year through a fan vote. Elliott received a total of 266,363 votes to extend his streak to seven.

The 2020 Cup Series champion was named the Most Popular Driver for the seventh consecutive season since 2018. The #9 HMS driver is one of only five drivers at the Cup level to win the award at least five times or more, joining his father Bill Elliott (16), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (15), Richard Petty (8), and Bobby Allison (8).

The Most Popular Driver Award also went to two drivers in NASCAR’s second-tier series and third-tier series. Justin Allgaier wins the Most Popular Driver award in the Xfinity Series for the fifth time in the last six years. JR Motorsports driver Allgaier claimed the Xfinity championship with two wins and 10 top-five finishes in 2024.

Rajah Caruth won the vote for Most Popular Driver in the Truck Series in the season, where he became just the third black driver to win a NASCAR national series race. He won his first Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

The #9 HMS driver wrapped up the season with a P8 finish at the season-finale race at Phoenix Raceway. He scored a win, 11 top-5s, and 19 top-10 finishes with an average finish of 11.7, the best average finish by any driver in 2024. He ended the season in seventh place in the championship standings.

After winning the award for the seventh time, Chase Elliott thanked his fans for supporting him and said that the award reflects his family's legacy in the sport.

During the awards banquet, Elliott said (via nascar.com):

“Thank you to the fans. The fans have meant so much to myself, my career, my family, and beyond. When I look at that award, regardless whether I won it tonight or not, I’m grateful for the fans across the country and around the world for what they do for me, but I’ve always looked at it as a little bit of just an opportunity to honor and appreciate the legacy that my family has really set up for me.”

The 2024 Awards ceremony will air on TV on Sunday, November 24 at 3 pm ET.
