The Cook Out 400 concluded on Sunday, August 11. The 23rd race of the season started at 6 pm ET and lasted for three hours, three minutes, and 18 seconds at the Richmond Raceway, with 37 entries.
The 2024 Cook Out 400 saw 26 lead changes among nine drivers and five caution flags.
Who won the NASCAR race today?
Austin Dillon, driving the #3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, secured his first win of the 2024 season and a playoff spot after a pair of moves on the final lap at 0.75-mile Richmond track.
On the final lap of overtime restart, it looked like Joey Logano would cruise to victory, but Dillon charged into Turn 4, making contact with Logano’s #22 car, which sent the #22 car spinning. Dillon then made contact with Hamlin, which sent the #11 driver into the outside wall as well, and Dillon went on to cross the finish line first.
The win marked his first since the 2022 season and the fifth of his Cup Series career.
Meanwhile, Hamlin was credited with a second-place finish despite being crashed on the final lap. He is followed by Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and Ross Chastain in the top five. Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Carson Hocevar, Chase Elliott, and Daniel Suárez completed the top 10 in the Cook Out 400.
