The 2024 GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway saw the NASCAR Cup Series drivers revisit the 2.5-mile-long superspeedway for the tenth race of the season. With Michael McDowell of Front Row Motorsports kicking off the 500-mile-long event starting on the pole, Ford-manufactured cars looked to make a comeback during a year that has been lackluster for the Blue Oval so far.
The first stage of the 188-lap-long event saw Team Penske's Austin Cindric drive his #2 Ford Mustang Dark Horse to the maximum stage points, followed by teammate Joey Logano's win during the second stage of the event.
Ford-manufactured cars swept both stages as other Blue Oval drivers like Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece challenged Logano for the stage 2 victory. It seems like the manufacturer's dry spell during the 2024 Cup Series season is finally bound to draw to a close at Talladega Superspeedway.
It remains to be seen if other drivers can challenge the Fords going into the final stage of the NASCAR Cup Series' visit to Talladega Superspeedway this year.
NASCAR fans bash commercial breaks during Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway
NASCAR fans on social media were not happy with the commercial breaks during the Cup Series broadcast as Joey Logano managed to seal the second stage win after teammate Austin Cindric swept the first during the 2024 GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway.
The official broadcast of the 500-mile-long event saw FOX Sports cut to commercial breaks as the field headed to the green-and-white checkered flag, signifying the end of stage 2 of the 188-lap-long race. Fans online vented their frustration at the number of commercials with one fan writing on X (formerly Twitter):
"I wasn’t sure since we go to commercial every five mins"
"WAY too many commercials during Daytona/Talladega races everytime! Its annoying ASF! Then boring tracks there's barely any commercials! Ugh! Going to commercials way too much during great on track action!" another fan wrote.
"@NASCARONFOX SUCKS nothing but commercials. Four laps left in the stage go to commercial come back for the final lap go right back to commercial." rued another fan.
"Holy crap I saw 5 laps of the whole stage, but saw 50 different commercials, fox sucks" added another fan.
It remains to be seen whether a Ford-manufactured car can manage to seal the event as the field nears the end of the final stage of the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
