The Hollywood Casino 400 was held at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, 29 September 2024, and Kyle Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, finished in 19th place. However, NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass believed that results would have been different if Chase Briscoe had given enough room to Busch.
The Fox Sports official X account shared Pockrass' views on the Briscoe and Busch situation. The caption read:
"A non-playoff Chase Briscoe should give Kyle Busch more room in that situation. But a playoff Chase Briscoe can’t afford to do so."
Pockrass explained that Briscoe "should" have given Busch enough room instead of spinning the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 out during the 237th lap. He also explained that Chase Briscoe is currently in one of those instances where you need "to take more than you give," and that's why he could not afford to give spots that easily.
"You've got to do that as long as you're still in the playoffs and hope for some forgiveness or know that you'll get it back at another time. But chase Briscoe in the playoffs; he needs those spots. He can't afford to go a lap down for as long as possible," stated Pockrass.
The NASCAR reporter highlighted that he gives Briscoe a "pass" because he believes "you have got to do everything you can" in these rounds to advance.
A look at Kyle Busch's 2024 season till Kansas
Richard Childress Racing team driver Kyle Busch had a few promising races at the start of the 2024 season. However, during the mid-season, the #8 driver's performance declined. He has ten top-10 finishes, five top-5 finishes, and only one pole position in 30 races.
Busch hasn't won a single race this season and is in 20th rank in the Cup Series standings. The #8 Chevy Camaro driver failed to qualify for the playoffs this season for the first time since 2015.
Kyle Busch was hoping for his maiden win as he qualified in third place for the race with a best time of 30.607 seconds and a top speed of 176-43 mph. The RCR team driver was 0.496 seconds behind Christopher Bell, the leader of the pack. Busch tried his best at Kansas Speedway for his first victory.
The #8 Chevy Camaro driver took the lead in the 105th lap from Bell and led two laps. He then took the lead in the 206th lap from the winner, Ross Chastain, and led a total of 26 laps in the race. The collision with Chase Briscoe in the 237th lap changed the whole outcome of the race for Kyle Busch.
