Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney are the two Team Penske drivers still in contention for winning this season's Cup title and making it three in three for Roger Penske. However, the two find themselves in a vastly different situation.
With his win at Las Vegas, Joey Logano booked his spot in Championship 4 with two races still remaining in the playoffs. But in Ryan Blaney's case, the defending Cup champion is sitting in the 7th spot on the playoffs table with a -47 deficit.
This prompted a journalist to ask Joey Logano ahead of Homestead if he intends to help Ryan Blaney this Sunday or at Martinsville. The 2x Cup champion described:
“Yes, within reason of what we can do. If there is anything that they want to try in practice or set up wise or anything like that, we are open to it. What do you guys need to make sure you have the fastest 12 Ford Mustang out there? What can we do to help you from that perspective? So we’ll do what we can to be good teammates, for sure.”
It's worth mentioning that Denny Hamlin recently credited the chemistry between the Team Penske drivers.
Speaking on his podcast, Hamlin claimed that Logano winning doesn't hurt Blaney's point situation as he went on to add that Penske drivers work 'the best of any' in help each other in scenarios as the one Blaney-Logano find themselves in.
Joey Logano claims he and Ryan Blaney have gotten closer since the latter's championship win last year
During a media interaction ahead of Homestead, Joey Logano was asked what makes his and Ryan Blaney's on track partnership so fruitful and different. Logano mentioned that the two teams 'definitely work a lot together' on performing setups.
The 2x Cup champion believed that sitting together and working through things instead of questioning each other 'helps.'
"I think Ryan Blaney and I work really well together off the racetrack and on the racetrack. And that relationship has only grown even more so after his championship, which I think is great. And it seems like we’ve been able to really be open with each other," Logano described.
Speaking about how he and Blaney have gotten closer since the latter's championship last season, Joey Logano didn't have an answer. But he suggested that it happened because Blaney has a championship, and now it's a case of making Team Penske more successful.
That said, it'll be interesting to see how the following two races at Homestead and Martinsville shape up for the Team Penske duo. Could Joey Logano help his teammate earn a win or get enough points to point his way in for Phoenix? Or would the #22 team treat the two next races as prep to gain an advantage for the Championship race?
Only time will tell.
