In a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. revisited a few moments from his driver, Justin Allgaier’s championship run at Phoenix last Saturday. Allgaier, the 2018 Xfinity Series Regular Season Champion, drives the No. 7 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, a team owned by Earnhardt Jr. in the Xfinity Series.

Allgaier’s chase for the championship wasn’t free from obstacles by any means—crashing the primary car during practice and then getting hit with not one, but two penalties was not something the JR Motorsports driver expected.

Furthermore, he wasn’t even sure why he was handed the restart penalty on lap 101. But Dale Jr. knew exactly what Allgaier had done wrong. He had pulled out of line just before the start/finish mark.

“We got a couple penalties. We had a restart penalty which was bad,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr. “Justin (Allgaier) was like 'What did I do?' I'm like...I'm not gonna on the radio and get chatty...but I'm sitting there damn, Justin, how can you not know that you pulled left You can't f****g move!"

Nevertheless, Allgaier’s championship victory was a rewarding one. It took the Spaulding native 14 full seasons in the series to get his hands on the honor. Thanks to him, JR Motorsports is now a four-time championship-winning organization.

JR Motorsports will be adding the 2020 Carolina Pro Late Model Series champion, Carson Kvapil, to its full-time Xfinity lineup in 2025. The 21-year-old speedster is expected to wheel the No. 1 Chevy Camaro with sponsorship from Bass Pro Shops, a Missouri-based outdoor and conservation company known for its longstanding partnership with Martin Truex Jr.

In the same episode of his podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed something he did not know about Justin Allgaier’s primary car, which the latter crashed at practice. It was only much later that the two-time Xfinity Series champion came to know the unexpected truth about the No. 7 machine.

After Dale Jr. announced that he would not be competing in 2025, that car was supposed to sit at one corner inside the JR Motorsports headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina. However, that did not happen. Allgaier’s primary car was the one that Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove at Bristol in September.

“We went there and crashed the primary car four laps into practice,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. “And the car that they get out...I didn't know at the time...that's my car, that I raced at Bristol. They built that car for me; I was gonna run that car every time I raced, and it was gonna sit in the corner of the shop."

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been running at least one race each season since his retirement in 2017. This year, he drove the iconic No. 88 at Bristol Motor Speedway and delivered an impressive P7 performance, also the 356th top-10 of his career. However, in 2025, the NASCAR veteran will be focusing more on his duties as a broadcaster and team owner.
