NASCAR team owner Roger Penske recently expressed joy over securing their third consecutive Cup Series title, following Joey Logano's win at Phoenix Raceway. Roger Penske's driver Ryan Blaney, who was also the reigning Cup Series champion, battled it out on the track with Joey Logano during most of the final stage.
However, the resilience of the #22 team kept them ahead, even after facing trouble on pit road. The win was historic for the team as Roger Penske's drivers finished P1 and P2 in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race for the first time.
Following the end of the race, Roger Penske reflected on his team's achievements in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season(via SiriusXM NASCAR Channel on X, formerly Twitter).
"It's amazing when you think about, you know, the Pettys and the Hendricks and people like that, just to get close to their club is amazing. But our team today and all season, we just got better and better. And as I said, my name's on the door, but it's, you know, all the people that make a difference," Roger Penske said.
"You know I put it all together and you couldn't write a script that came out any better for all of us. And you're driving your drivers to finish first and second[...]Well, we have no instructions, It's 'The best man wins,' and I think that they ran there together. And it was amazing, wheel to wheel like that. And I was glad we're one guy past the other. I didn't really care who. But we needed to get that done. But overall, great season," he added.
Roger Penske's Team Penske debuted in NASCAR in 1972 at Riverside International Raceway. The team, which was initially participating part-time, converted to full-time in 1976. Since then, the NASCAR team has secured 230 race wins and six driver championships, across the Cup and Xfinity Series.
“Make things happen when it matters”: Roger Penske's championship-winning driver Joey Logano reflects on triumph at Phoenix
Joey Logano's path to the championship race was something right out of a book as he had initially failed to advance to the Round of 12. However, HMS driver Alex Bowman failed a post-race inspection at Charlotte, allowing Logano to continue his title chase.
Team Penske's #22 driver drove down victory lane in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, securing his spot in the final four. After clinching his third Cup Series championship title, Joey Logano said (as quoted by PRN Live on X, formerly Twitter):
“I love the playoffs. What a race. What a Team Penske battle there at the end. This is special. What a team to fight through the day. I got the best team. We are well rounded and can make things happen when it matters,"
Meanwhile, Ryan Blaney, who finished this year's season in P2, congratulated his Penske teammate for winning the third consecutive title for their team.
